iPhone 18 Pro Series Launched Globally, Debuting Apple’s First 2nm Chip

Apple’s back at it again. They just unveiled the new generation of iPhones. And this time, the spotlight has shifted from the Pro series to the new iPhone Duo. But let me tell you something, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are still the most powerful iPhones that cater to the general population.

Apart from the iPhone Duo stealing the spotlight, what’s more interesting is that there’s no standard iPhone 18 model as of yet, which is a bit of a bummer, especially for buyers who want the latest iPhone without spending a ton. That brings me to my next question.

What is the Price of iphone 18 Pro Series in Nepal?

Last year, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max launched at $1,099 and $1,199 respectively. Now, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max start at $1,199 and $1,299. That’s a price bump of $100 for the Pro and the Pro Max.

Moreover, iPhones typically launch at a significantly higher price compared to the US MRP, just like in India, and Nepal and India usually get the same treatment.

So with that in mind, the iPhone 18 Pro price in Nepal could land at Rs. 2,63,900 (256GB), Rs. 3,03,800 (512GB), and Rs. 3,83,900 (1TB). On the other hand, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to cost around Rs. 2,87,900 (256GB), Rs. 3,28,000 (512GB), Rs. 4,07,900 (1TB), and Rs. 5,27,800 (2TB).

Currently, the phone has not made its way into Nepal. In fact, even globally, it’s only available for pre-booking, with general retail availability expected to start on September 18. However, in Nepal’s context, we could be waiting a while longer, as new iPhones usually launch around the end of September, going by past trends. This time could be no different.

The iPhone 17 Pro series brought forth a design that’s been copied over and over again. They made the camera plateau design a lot more common; even brands like Honor heavily took inspiration from it for their 600 Pro.

Well, what about now? Is there anything new that other smartphones will take inspiration from next year, or is the change happening more on the inside this time? Let’s find out.

iPhone 18 Pro Series Overview

Once Apple settles on a new iPhone design, they tend to stick with it for a couple of generations. Just look at the triple camera module introduced back with the iPhone 11 Pro Max, it stuck around all the way till the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

So it’s no surprise that both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max feature the same rectangular camera plateau design from last year. Apple has basically built the iPhone 18 Pro series on the same frame as the iPhone 17 Pro series, so even the button configuration remains identical.

The only real difference is in the color options. The iPhone 18 Pro comes in three new color variants: Black, Glacier, and Burgundy. There’s also a Silver variant, though it looks nearly identical to last year’s iPhone 17 Pro Silver.

The Dynamic Island has also gotten slightly smaller this year, while somehow becoming more useful at the same time. It can now show three Live Activities at once, up from the two it could handle before.

Speaking of tampering with things, Apple seems to be trying out something genuinely new with the camera this time. The phone now lets you manually adjust settings on the 48MP main camera itself, specifically, the variable aperture.

For readers unfamiliar with the term, aperture essentially controls how much light your camera lets in and how much of the scene stays in focus. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max let you set the aperture to ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8, or ƒ/4.0 depending on the condition, meaning you get better background blur (bokeh) at wider apertures and sharper, better-lit low-light photos and videos when needed.

Low light has always been one of the hardest things to nail on a mobile camera, so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out once the phone officially launches.

Besides that, there’s the 48MP ultrawide camera for those wide scenic shots, along with a 48MP telephoto lens that still zooms optically up to 4x.

The selfie camera remains the same: an 18MP Center Stage camera, nothing new here.

On the video front, the main camera can still record up to 4K footage at 120fps, same as last time. But with the 18 Pro series, users can now shoot 4K video with Dolby Vision HDR even in Time-lapse mode, and Cinematic mode can now be shot at 60fps instead of being capped at 30fps.

That’s not all, though: Cinematic mode can also be applied after you’ve already taken the video, similar to how you can add background blur after the fact; no need to have Cinematic mode turned on while filming to get that effect.

All this is also likely made possible thanks to the new A20 Pro, a powerhouse built for Pro-level performance and AI, at least according to Apple.

It’s Apple’s first 2nm chip. Like the A19 Pro, it features a 6-core CPU, consisting of two super cores and four efficiency cores. The two new “super cores” are borrowed from Apple’s latest M-series chips. And this time, the GPU also gets an extra core, jumping from 6 to 7.

Specs aside, Apple has mentioned that the new chip is up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro and comes with 50% more memory bandwidth.

As for memory options, both phones ship in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB variants globally. But the iPhone 18 Pro will likely not get the 2TB variant shipped to Nepal.

As for the display, there’s absolutely nothing new here. It looks like Apple just carried over last year’s panel, much like the design itself. And honestly, that’s not a bad thing; the display was already good, so there wasn’t much need to tamper with it.

The iPhone 18 Pro features a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max runs a 6.9-inch panel. Both are LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED displays with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.

Brightness in HBM mode sits at 1,600 nits on both phones, which is a bit of a letdown, since this exact number had already climbed all the way to 2,000 nits back on the iPhone 16 two years ago. Hopefully, we see that number pushed higher next year.

Display durability also stays the same, Ceramic Shield glass on the front paired with an anti-reflective coating.

Moving to endurance, it’s always a bit confusing with Apple, since they never officially disclose the exact mAh figure.

But Apple claims the iPhone 18 Pro can last up to 24 hours on typical use, 36 hours with video playback, and 33 hours with streamed video playback, while the Pro Max lasts up to 30 hours on typical use, 45 hours with video playback, and 40 hours with streamed video playback.

Comparing that to the previous generation, the new iPhone 18 Pro Max apparently offers about 6 hours more video playback than the 17 Pro Max. It’s not the most dramatic jump, but hey, at least charging is faster this time.

Both the Pro and Pro Max support 60W wired charging, capable of reaching 50% in around 15 minutes. Wireless and reverse wireless charging, however, remain unchanged, still capped at 25W and 4.5W, respectively.

iOS 27 and Siri AI

Alongside the hardware, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max ship with iOS 27 right out of the box, and this year, the bigger story is arguably on the software side.

Apple has introduced Siri AI, an entirely reworked version of Siri built on Apple Intelligence. It’s meant to feel far more personal, capable, and conversational than anything Siri has offered before.

Siri AI can now draw on personal context to help you find things across your messages, emails, and photos, and it uses onscreen awareness to actually act on whatever is currently on your screen.

There’s even a Siri mode built into the Camera app, letting you point your phone at something and get information or take action on it directly, along with the ability to simply describe what you need and have Siri write it out for you.

It’s worth noting, though, that Siri AI is only rolling out as a beta with iOS 27. So while the ambition here is clearly bigger than what we’ve seen from Apple in years, it might take a few months before the experience feels fully baked for everyone.

Both the iPhone 18 Pro and the 18 Pro Max feel like a step in the right direction. And that’s not surprising with each generation, Apple has consistently focused its efforts on camera hardware. Last year, we got the Center Stage camera. This time, it’s the variable aperture main camera, which is a massive addition considering it directly tackles one thing mobile cameras usually struggle with: low-light photography.

What I find genuinely interesting here is that Apple isn’t just throwing more megapixels at the problem. Giving users actual control over aperture is a very “pro” way to solve this. It treats the camera less like a point-and-shoot and more like a proper tool, which fits the “Pro” branding a lot better than past incremental updates have.

Plus, we also got upgraded 60W wired charging, up from the previous 40W. Finally closing some of the gap with Android flagships that have offered faster charging for years now.

So while the design may have stayed the same, Apple has definitely made the new Pro series a touch better this time around.
