Vivo Y05e Launched in Nepal: The Y05 Gets a Cheaper Sibling

Amidst a surge in smartphone prices, Vivo has added another budget phone to its Y Series lineup in Nepal. The Vivo Y05e is an affordable sibling to the Vivo Y05.

It shares much of its hardware with the Y05 but makes some cuts to hit the lower price. How much lower? Let’s find out.

What is the Price of the Vivo Y05e in Nepal?

The Vivo Y05e price in Nepal is Rs. 19,999 for the sole 4/64GB variant. No offers are currently active on this phone. It is available for purchase at authorised stores, both online and in physical stores across Nepal.

That said, the Vivo Y05e is Rs. 2,000 cheaper than the Y05 and replaces it as the most affordable option in Vivo’s lineup.

Vivo has made some cuts with the Vivo Y05e, alright. But the bigger question is: what exactly did Vivo trim to get there? And could the Y05e be a better deal than the Y05 despite the cuts? We’ll discuss all that further in this article:

Vivo Y05e Overview

The vivo Y05e is an entry-level 4G smartphone that focuses mainly on the basics. As such, its design is rather basic, with a composite plastic body, a relatively thick profile, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

One very noticeable design aspect of the Vivo Y05e that you cannot overlook at all is its single camera setup. Yep! This phone only has one camera. While we definitely like it when phones have multiple cameras, it’s pointless if said cameras serve no real function.

Maybe that’s why I find the Vivo Y05e’s design rather honest. At the same time, it also reminds me of the iPhone 17e, which infamously also has a single camera.

As for durability, Vivo says the Y05e has a “Comprehensive Cushioning Structure”, which is fine and all. But Vivo is also pitching its “drop-resistant phone case” as part of the durability structure.

This is definitely the first time I have seen a brand pitch accessory-based protection as a durability feature. I obviously found it a bit silly and funny, but it’s not like the Vivo Y05e doesn’t have anything to show for its toughness.

It is IP64-rated, meaning it can withstand dust exposure and water splashes with no issues. Vivo Y05e also passed the military-grade shock-resistance test and flaunts the MIL-STD-810H certification.

As for colours, the phone is available in two variants: Crest Teal and Grand Black. The former has a wave-inspired pattern, while the latter keeps it simple with a matte finish.

Moving on to the display, Vivo Y05e features a 6.74-inch LCD with HD+ resolution (1600 x 720 pixels), 260 PPI density, and a 90Hz refresh rate. The display can also reach 570 nits of brightness (HBM), which is adequate for basic usage, but might be a bit bothersome in bright outdoor conditions.

This is where you start to notice the sacrifices Y05e makes compared to the Y05, as the non-e variant supports a faster 120Hz refresh rate and reaches up to 1,200 nits of brightness.

At its core, the UNISOC T7225, built on a 12nm process, powers the Vivo Y05e. It will handle everyday tasks just fine, and you can even play simple games like Candy Crush and Subway Surfers too. But popular online titles like PUBG and MLBB will test its limits.

Additionally, the Vivo Y05 also rocks the same chip. So, it’s safe to say Vivo hasn’t discriminated between Y05 siblings at the chipset level. But we cannot say the same for the battery.

The Y05e offers a 5,150mAh battery, a significant step down from the Y05’s larger 6,500mAh cell. Both phones charge at the same 15W speed, though.

As for memory, the Y05e comes with a single 4GB + 64GB setup. It supports up to 4GB of extended RAM and up to 2TB of storage expansion via a microSD card. On the software side, the phone runs OriginOS 6 based on Android 16.

Lastly, we already mentioned the phone only has a single camera on the back and how the design felt honest. But that’s not the same as a phone having high-resolution sensors.

We only get an 8MP main shooter and a 5MP front snapper. This is a very modest setup through and through, so don’t expect high-quality photos and videos from the vivo Y05e.

It has become increasingly difficult to find phones around Rs. 20,000 due to the current memory shortage. But when compared to other similarly priced phones, the Vivo Y05e keeps up pretty well.

For instance, there is the Redmi A7. It has a 120Hz display and a 13MP main camera, but it only comes with 3GB RAM and costs a touch over Rs. 20,000.

Then there is the Ai+ Pulse 2, which costs the same as the Vivo Y05e. It also packs a 120Hz display, has even better cameras with 50MP resolution, and a 6,000mAh battery. But then it’s from Ai+, and the recent controversies surrounding the brand do not give you much confidence.

So, the Y05e might not give you the best-in-class hardware, but it can be a fairly straightforward choice for users who prioritise reliability and basic everyday use.
