Realme C85 Series Launched in Nepal: Does a 144Hz 720p Display Make Any Sense?

Realme has been relatively slow in Nepal’s smartphone market, with selective launches throughout the year. However, the company seems to be picking up the pace, having recently launched its flagship Realme GT 8 Pro and now following up with the budget offerings, the Realme C85 and C85 Pro, in Nepal.

As the successors to the Realme C75, the Realme C85 series brings some upgrades, a bigger battery, a 144Hz refresh rate, and an AMOLED display, along with a price jump. And if that wasn’t enough, there are some frustrating downgrades too, which we’ll get to shortly. With Realme struggling to maintain momentum in Nepal, the real question is whether these upgrades are enough to reignite interest in the brand.

What is the Price of Realme C85 Series in Nepal?

The Realme C85 price in Nepal is Rs. 39,999 (8/256GB), whereas the C85 Pro is priced at Rs. 36,999 (8/128GB). Both phones are now available for purchase via authorized retail stores across the country and on the online store, with 0% EMI options available as well.

The Rs. 35,000–40,000 segment in Nepal is a strange place right now; price-to-performance ratios have taken a hit, and older launches are often more compelling than the latest ones. Unfortunately, the C85 and C85 Pro are no exception to that trend.

It’s also worth noting that the C85 carries a steep Rs. 10,000 price jump over its predecessor, the Realme C75, which launched at Rs. 29,999 for the same 8/256GB variant. On top of that, this marks the first time Realme has used the “Pro” moniker on a C-series smartphone, an interesting move that raises expectations, but whether the hardware justifies it is another question entirely.

Realme C85 Series Overview

The Realme C85 looks like a near copy-paste of the C75 in terms of design. It retains the same boxy shape and a similar camera module, with the only visible changes being a feather-like texture on the rear plastic panel and a pulse light on the camera module for notifications.

The design feels generic at best, and what’s more surprising is that there are virtually no visual differences between the standard and Pro variant, which makes the “Pro” branding feel even harder to justify. The Realme C85 is available in Swan Black and Kingfisher Blue, while the C85 Pro comes in Peacock Green and Parrot Purple.

In addition, the C75 was heavily marketed around its ruggedness, and the C85 carries that legacy forward with IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, along with military-grade shock resistance.

Moving to the display, things get a little spicy. The C75 had a 1080p IPS LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate, and honestly, a bump to 120Hz would have been the natural next step. But Realme surprised us with a 6.8-inch 144Hz refresh rate panel on the C85, which sounds exciting, right? Well, there’s a catch. It’s a 720p IPS panel. Wow, didn’t see that coming.

On the bright side, the C85 Pro gets a 6.8-inch FHD AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. A much more sensible choice, and honestly, the biggest reason to consider the Pro over the standard model.

In terms of performance, both the C85 and C85 Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 685 chipset, a decent step up from the MediaTek Helio G92 Max on the Realme C75. Both phones come with 8GB of RAM, though the storage split is a bit odd. The standard C85 gets 256GB while the Pro variant is limited to just 128GB.

Normally, you’d expect the Pro variant to at least bring some camera improvements. Surprisingly, both the C85 and C85 Pro share the same setup: a 50MP main camera and an 8MP selfie camera. And to make it worse, that’s the same camera configuration the C75 already had. No upgrades whatsoever.

Finally, something worth getting excited about: the battery. Both the C85 and C85 Pro pack a 7000mAh Si/C battery, up from the 6000mAh unit on the C75. Fast charging remains the same at 45W, but both phones now also support bypass charging, which is a nice addition for extended gaming or heavy usage sessions.

The C85 and C85 Pro run Android 15 with Realme UI 6.0 out of the box. At this point, Android 15 is simply not acceptable for a 2026 launch, especially when Android 17 is just around the corner. And to make matters worse, Realme hasn’t mentioned any update roadmap for either device, which doesn’t inspire much confidence.

At the end of the day, the Realme C85 series feels like just another overpriced mid-range phone. Between the two, the C85 Pro is the better choice; the AMOLED display at least gives it some justification. But the standard C85 is a hard sell; a Rs. 10,000 price hike paired with a 720p display is difficult to defend. The battery and chipset upgrades are nice, but they’re not enough to offset everything else.

Under Rs. 40,000, there are a lot of options on the table that provide way more value than the Realme C85 series.
