No, it is not 2021 again, but Vivo has once again launched a phone called the Vivo Y21 in 2026. For context, we’ve already seen the Y21 all the way back in 2021. The two phones are entirely different, being generations apart, but both share one thing in common: they are budget smartphones.

Apparently, Vivo runs out of ideas for names before it runs out of ideas for budget phones. Now let’s see how the 2026 version fares against 2026’s competition.
What is the Price of Vivo Y21 5G in Nepal?
The Vivo Y21 is a relatively newer phone that debuted globally in early 2026. And now, in May 2026, it has made its way to Nepal.
The Vivo Y21 price in Nepal is Rs. 32,999 for the sole 6/128GB variant, and if you are looking to get one, it is available for purchase at Vivo authorized stores across the country.
The naming scheme of the Y series has never really made sense to me. I talked about this in the Vivo Y11d article, where Vivo launched the Y21d first, then the Y31d, and then the Y11d. Quite confusing for the average buyer.
And now, we have the Y21, a phone sharing the exact same name as the Y21 from 2021. They could have easily gone with Y26 for 2026, or honestly, any other name, since the options are not exactly running out. But I guess we are sticking with Y21 again.
Anyway, enough ranting. Let’s get into the overview.
Vivo Y21 5G Overview
While the new Y21 and the 2021 Y21 are completely different phones, the new Y21 bears a striking resemblance to another phone already available in Nepal, the Vivo Y05. In fact, both phones share identical dimensions, and it looks very much like they are built around the same body.
And just like the Y05, the Y21 gives off classic budget vibes: plastic back, plastic frame, plays the part perfectly for the price.
Vivo’s official page describes it as a “Metallic Matte Frame,” which got me quite excited. But sadly, they’re just talking about the finish, and the entire phone is made of plastic. A bit misleading, Vivo.
That said, the plastic body is not a deal breaker since the pill-shaped camera module gives the Y21 a clean and modern look. So that is a nice touch.
But what is not modern is the water drop notch up front. At this price, it is simply unacceptable. Even the old 2021 version of the Y21 had a similar notch, and it does seem like the progress here just stopped.
At least on the bright side, the Y21 carries an IP65 rating, which adds some peace of mind against dust and splashes.

The display is a 6.74-inch IPS LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, a pretty standard number these days. What is actually unique here is that it only runs an HD+ resolution, which is a bit of a head scratcher, considering most phones at this price already offer FHD+.
Under the hood, the Y21 runs the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It is not the fastest chip at this price, but not the worst either. But if you stretch the budget a little, the Samsung Galaxy A17 offers the Exynos 1330, a faster chip overall.
The camera also has that “not great, not terrible” thing going for it. A 50MP main sensor paired with an auxiliary lens, and a 5MP selfie shooter up front. Nothing groundbreaking, nothing offensive, just your standard budget camera setup that gets the job done for everyday shots.

The battery is where the Y21 actually surprises. It packs a 6,500mAh unit paired with 44W fast charging, which is genuinely impressive for this price range and puts it ahead of many rivals here.
Lastly, the Y21 boots on Android 16 with OriginOS 6 on top. OriginOS is one of the cleaner Android skins out there, but being a budget phone, expect a decent amount of ads and bloatware baked in.

The Vivo Y21 feels like just another budget smartphone, but it is definitely not priced like one. And the biggest reason it struggles to justify that price is the HD+ display. Since the display is the thing you spend the most time looking at on a smartphone, the lower resolution is an instant red flag for me.
For a casual user, it may not matter much. But seeing rivals like the Galaxy A17 offering a better processor, an AMOLED display, higher resolution, and outstanding software support, the Y21 just does not have a convincing answer.
