Apple iPad Air M4 Just Got a Lot More Expensive in Nepal

HIGHLIGHTS

  • iPad Air price in Nepal starts at Rs. 1,44,500 for the 11-inch variant and Rs. 1,85,000 for the 13-inch.
  • The tablet runs on last year’s M4 chipset from Apple.
  • The iPad Air M4 now sports a massive 12GB of RAM and is paired with up to 1TB of storage.

The Apple iPad Air M4 arrived in Nepal earlier this year as the successor to the iPad Air M3. However, it has seen a major price hike, making it significantly more expensive than at launch.

Apple doesn’t usually overhaul the iPad Air with every generation. Instead, it refines the formula with a newer chip and a handful of meaningful upgrades. But with the latest price revision in Nepal, the question is whether the iPad Air M4 still delivers good value.

When you look at MacBooks, the MacBook Air has traditionally been the most affordable entry point—at least until the newer lineup expansions like the MacBook Neo.

But things work a bit differently in Apple’s iPad lineup. You’ve got the iPad Mini, iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Pro, and the naming doesn’t exactly scale the same way as MacBooks. In this lineup, the iPad Air sits just below the Pro, acting as that sweet spot between performance and price.

And that positioning has remained fairly consistent over the years. Apple has clearly positioned the Air as the device that delivers near-Pro performance without the full Pro price tag, making it the go-to option for most users who want power without going all in.

Looking at Apple’s pattern over the years, the Air usually inherits the previous generation Pro chip. So after last year’s iPad Pro with the M4, it’s no surprise that in 2026, we’re seeing the iPad Air M4.

Beyond the chipset, however, the iPad Air M4 is largely an iterative update over its predecessor. And with its recent price hike in Nepal, the bigger question is no longer what’s new: it’s whether the overall package still justifies its asking price.

With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at what the iPad Air M4 has to offer.

Apple iPad Air M4 Overview

The new iPad Air M4 looks identical to the M3 and M2 before it. Just like the MacBook, Apple is playing it very safe in the design department. That said, the premium aluminium build is still here.

Good news for Nepali buyers is that the iPad Air this time comes in both Wi-Fi only and cellular (5G) models in Nepal, a welcome change, as previous generations typically offered only the Wi-Fi variant through local authorized channels.

The Air comes in two sizes, an 11-inch and a larger 13-inch model. Aside from the screen size, the main difference is the resolution. The 11-inch runs a 2360 x 1640 display while the 13-inch steps up to 2732 x 2048.

However, both models share the same 264PPI pixel density, so there should be no real visual difference between the two. Both are also Liquid Retina displays, offering a 60Hz LCD panel with P3 wide colour coverage and True Tone.

iPad Air Processor

Moving to hardware, the M4 chip is the most obvious upgrade. It is not entirely new; the iPad Pro M4 debuted back in 2024. And it has been Apple’s trend to bring the previous year’s Pro chip to the current iPad Air.

However, there’s a slight catch this time. While both the M3 and M4 iPad Air feature an 8-core CPU, the M4 version in the iPad Air is a binned chip with only 3 performance cores and 5 efficiency cores (compared to 4 performance + 4 efficiency cores on the M3). In theory, this shifts the balance slightly toward better efficiency and battery life, though it delivers modestly lower peak multi-core performance than a full M4 chip found in the iPad Pro

Apple claims the SoC is up to 30% faster than the previous M3 iPad Air and up to 2.3x faster than the iPad Air M1, with over 4x faster 3D rendering with ray tracing compared to the M1.

On the memory front, there is an impressive upgrade, shifting from 8GB to 12GB of RAM. Given the ongoing memory concerns on iPads, this is a meaningful improvement. On top of that, memory bandwidth has also jumped from 100GB/s to 120GB/s, meaning faster data processing and smoother multitasking overall.

Connectivity has also seen a significant upgrade, moving from Wi-Fi 6E to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 to Bluetooth 6.

iPad Air Camera

The camera hardware has not seen any meaningful changes. You still get the same 12MP rear shooter and a 12MP Centre Stage front camera, identical to last year. That said, Apple cameras are generally reliable, and even without an upgrade, they should handle video calls and general use just fine.

On the battery front, the 13-inch model packs a 36.59Wh cell while the smaller 11-inch comes with a 28.93Wh unit. Interestingly, Apple claims both models offer up to 10 hours of web browsing on a single charge.

With the M4 chip, 12GB RAM, Wi-Fi 7, and Apple’s polished software experience, the iPad Air M4 remains one of the most capable premium tablets available. The hardware itself leaves very little to complain about.

However, the recent price hike in Nepal makes it considerably harder to recommend than it was at launch. At its current pricing, the iPad Air sits much closer to the iPad Pro territory, reducing the value advantage that has traditionally defined the Air lineup.

If your workload genuinely benefits from the M4 chip, whether that’s professional creative work, video editing, coding, or demanding multitasking, the iPad Air M4 is still an excellent investment. For everyday tasks like media consumption, note-taking, browsing, or casual gaming, however, the standard iPad or iPad mini offers significantly better value for money.
