POCO X8 Pro Series Coming to Nepal This Week!

 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The POCO X8 Pro series will launch this week in Nepal.
  • The POCO X8 Pro series includes two members: Pro and Pro Max.
  • Both phones come with the latest MediaTek Dimensity chipsets.

POCO has had a rocky history in Nepal, often launching a batch of products before going back into hibernation. But this time, it seems ready to stick around. During its long-awaited comeback in February, POCO launched three phones — X7 ProF7, and F8 Pro.

Now, just two months later, the company is already back with two new products — the POCO X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max. Both phones made their global debut in March, so we’re getting them relatively early this time, unlike their predecessor, the X7 Pro, which arrived almost a year late to the party.

I briefly mentioned the X7 Pro, which is now being succeeded just months after launching in Nepal — funnily, that’s barely enough time to be called “months”. While it’s exciting to see two new POCO entries, it’s hard not to feel a bit bad for recent X7 Pro buyers and the sellers who now have X7 Pro stock just sitting on their shelves.

A curious case of the X7 Pro, perhaps? But let’s look ahead, like we always should, and dive into the newly arriving POCO X8 Pro series:

Poco X8 Pro Series Overview

Starting with the looks, the POCO X8 Pro series has a largely similar look to its predecessor. However, the design now leans towards a more uniform finish, moving away from the dual-tone look of the previous model. The White Pro Max variant still keeps a dual-tone style, but with a shutter shade-like pattern instead of a stark contrast.

As for the display, the POCO X7 Pro had a 6.67-inch panel, which neither of the X8 Pro models inherits. The standard X8 Pro gets a smaller 6.59-inch screen, while the X8 Pro Max goes bigger with a 6.83-inch panel. Both are AMOLED displays with 1.5K resolution, up to a 120Hz refresh rate, 3,500 nits peak brightness (across 25% of the display), and Gorilla Glass 7i protection, though.

While size is one of the most obvious differences between the POCO X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max, performance is where it’s really at. The “less powerful” of the two uses the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra — a staple premium midrange chip. Meanwhile, the Pro Max steps things up with the Dimensity 9500s, which sit just below MediaTek’s flagship lineup. Both these processors are quite new, launched just in January.

These phones also come with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, though POCO highlights a 9600Mbps RAM speed specifically for the Pro Max. They also differ in battery size: the standard model packs a 6,500mAh cell, and the Max goes above and beyond with a massive 8,500mAh battery.

Some regions even get a 9,000mAh unit, but that won’t be the case here, as POCO Nepal has already clarified. But that’s nothing to worry about, as POCO X8 Pro will be the phone with the largest battery in Nepal, dethroning the Honor X9d.

Both phones support 100W fast charging along with 27W reverse fast charging. The latter is a feature that’s quickly becoming a staple in Xiaomi and Co. devices, and honestly, I am all for it.

As for cameras, the POCO X8 Pro series sticks with the same setup as its predecessor, featuring a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 20MP selfie shooter. The main sensor is again the Sony IMX882 on the Pro model, while the X8 Pro Max uses the Light Fusion 600 sensor.

The X8 Pro Max also gets a few fancier features, such as eSIM support and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Meanwhile, the X8 Pro sticks with the basics with no eSIM support and a standard optical fingerprint sensor. Both phones run HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.

The POCO X8 Pro series also comes with the performance-first approach that we all know POCO for. The brand is even offering two different levels of hardware.

The standard POCO X8 Pro is the true successor to the X7 Pro. It has grown smaller in size, but the specs have definitely gone up. In the meantime, the POCO X8 Pro Max is a straight upgrade with an even more powerful processor and a few “flagship” features like eSIM support and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor sprinkled in to give a more premium experience.

What’s left to see is how they are priced. But regardless, both of them are pretty solid phones and will be popular among value-centric Nepali buyers.
