OPPO A6 Price Hike Just 2 Months After Launch: Is It Worth It?

 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The OPPO A6 price in Nepal now sits at Rs. 42,499 (8/256GB).
  • The A6 is powered by a Snapdragon 685 SoC paired with a massive 7,000mAh battery.
  • The phone sports an HD+ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.

At the time of the OPPO A6 launch, the phone, even at its original price, felt like it was trying a bit too hard to call itself a semi-premium device. And now, the same smartphone is getting its first price hike.

Previously, the A series was considered budget or even entry-level. But with this price hike, it is gently creeping into mid-tier territory. OPPO has given the A6 some upgrades, but can they actually make the phone desirable, especially with this price bump? Let’s find out.

Last year, among all the OPPO A5 series phones, the A5 Pro, A5, and A5x, the A5x offered the most value for money, mainly because it was an entry-level phone at an entry-level price.

But with the A6, the pricing seems a way off. Then again, OPPO phones have always sat on the opposite end of the aggressive pricing spectrum. But maybe they have improved the phone quite a bit to justify competing in the lower mid-range segment.

Well, without further delay, let’s get into it and find out.

OPPO A6 Overview

Compared to the previous generation, the phone now looks quite different due to the square camera module, and the ring light is also gone. The main highlight of the phone is the battery, which we will get into shortly, but this has also made the phone noticeably thicker, gaining 0.6mm to now sit at 8.6mm.

OPPO has also added stereo speakers and upgraded the ingress protection from IP65 to IP69, compared to the OPPO A5.

Flip the phone over, and you will be greeted with some thick bezels. For a budget phone, this would not have been an issue, but for the A6, which now costs more than Rs. 40,000, this issue is as big as its bezels. The display itself is quite subpar as well.

OPPO Nepal officials mentioned that the phone runs on an AMOLED screen. However, I did not find any mention of an AMOLED screen officially.

But I think they are really stretching it, and it also does not help that it is an HD+ panel. At least there are some upgrades, like a 120Hz refresh rate and a slightly bumped brightness that now peaks at 1,125 nits.

The display features a punch-hole notch housing an 8MP selfie sensor. On the rear, there is a 50MP main sensor paired with a 2MP monochrome lens, similar to the A6 Pro.

The A6 runs the Snapdragon 685 (6nm), which is an upgrade over the previous generation’s 11nm SoC, though not by a huge margin. For memory, the phone gets a generous 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, along with a microSD card slot for expansion.

The battery has been upgraded to a 7,000mAh unit, 1,000mAh more than the previous generation. However, charging remains the same at 45W. Lastly, the phone ships with Android 15 with ColorOS 15 on top.

From the overview alone, the specs and the price are clearly not in sync. At launch, the A6 was already sitting at the edge of being an overpriced disappointment, and now the Rs. 3,500 price bump only pushes it further over that edge.

While a larger battery and higher memory are nice to have, the rest of the specs — a 4G processor and an HD+ display — really make no sense in the Rs. 40,000+ price segment, especially when heavy hitters like the Redmi Note 15 5G, Infinix Note 60, and Infinix GT 30 exist and offer far better value.
