The first phone in this series, the ZTE Nubia Air, is set to launch soon in Nepal. On paper, it clearly offers more advanced specs than most of the ZTE phones currently available in the country.

So, let’s take a closer look at what the Nubia Air brings to the table and whether it has what it takes to stand out in today’s competitive market.

It almost feels like ZTE isn’t even trying to hide the iPhone inspiration this time around. With the V80 Design, sure, the phone followed similar design patterns, but at least the name wasn’t a direct copy of Apple’s lineup.

With the Nubia Air, however, even the name mirrors the iPhone Air, and that’s on top of the ultra-thin design language. The resemblance is impossible to ignore.

Now, with any phone that focuses heavily on being thin, there are always inevitable compromises, less room for a capable camera system, and often a weaker battery. So the real question is: how well does the Nubia Air manage these trade-offs? And more importantly, what is the phone actually made of beneath that slim exterior?

Let’s dive in and find out.

ZTE Nubia Air Overview

Just like how the iPhone Air is the thinnest phone in Apple’s lineup, the ZTE Nubia Air now takes that crown for ZTE. The phone measures just 5.9mm in thickness, making it the slimmest smartphone ZTE has ever launched.

Unsurprisingly, the Nubia Air also heavily resembles the iPhone Air in terms of design. The most noticeable similarity is the camera plateau. However, instead of Apple’s approach, Nubia goes with a camera bump similar to what we’ve seen on Google Pixel phones.

The camera module features what appears to be three separate camera lenses. But more on that later.

Now, the plastic back does make the Nubia Air feel a bit cheap, at least visually. That said, ZTE has compensated for this by using an aluminum frame, which is crucial considering just how thin the phone is. And ZTE has also added IP68/IP69K ingress protection, which is impressive for a device in this category.

Moving to the front, the Nubia Air features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with up to 1.5K resolution. This makes it the only ZTE phone in Nepal to offer such a high-resolution AMOLED panel. On top of that, the display is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.

Despite the camera module suggesting a triple-camera setup, the Nubia Air actually houses just a single 50MP AI camera. There’s no ultra-wide or macro lens here. On the front, you get a 20MP selfie camera housed inside a punch-hole cutout.

Powering the phone is the UNISOC T8300 chipset. It’s a relatively new processor that delivers performance close to popular midrange chips like the MediaTek Helio G200 and Snapdragon 695. The key advantage here, however, is that the T8300 is a 5G-enabled chipset, giving it an edge over some of its competitors.

Finally, when it comes to battery, the Nubia Air packs a 5,000mAh unit, which is quite impressive considering the phone’s ultra-slim profile. Charging is handled by 33W fast charging.

That said, it’s pretty obvious that the Nubia Air easily stands out among all the ZTE phones currently available in Nepal. It offers a genuinely good display, an eye-catching design, and despite the plastic back, the phone still manages to feel quite premium in hand.

However, once you step outside ZTE’s own lineup and compare it with other phones available in the market today, the Nubia Air starts to lose its competitive edge.

For instance, at a lower price, the Infinix Hot 60 Pro+ offers a similarly thin, curved design with comparable performance, a better display, a slightly larger battery, and significantly faster charging. And that makes it much harder to justify the Nubia Air purely on specs alone.
