ASUS V16 Overview
Design
At first glance, the ASUS V16 does not stand out of the ordinary. The laptop comes with a matte black finish, which is supposed to be less prone to fingerprints. However, its quite the opposite in this case and makes the laptop quite a fingerprint magnet.
It has a plastic body and is MIL-STD 810H certified for durability. The thinnest part of the laptop is 18mm thick, while the thickest part is 22mm. The laptop weighs 1.95kg, fairly thin and lightweight compared to other laptops in the gaming genre.
The ASUS V16 comes with a full-sized backlit keyboard with a dedicated Co-Pilot key. ASUS advertises the keyboard as an Ergosense keyboard, something found in Zenbook and ROG series, some of ASUS’s high-end laptops. It also has transparent caps for WASD and arrow keys and features a single blue backlight.
The laptop features a spacious touchpad, which ASUS brands as a 40% larger ergonomic touchpad.
Display
The ASUS V16 comes with a 16-inch FHD+ 144Hz display with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.
The screen has an 89% screen-to-body ratio, offering a display area with minimal bezel. It features an IPS-level panel and 300 nits brightness. The brightness is quite low and might not be enough when using the laptop outdoors or in brightly lit areas. It has a 45% NTSC color gamut, which translates to about 60-62.5% sRGB.
The limited color range, while sufficient for general use, may not be ideal for professional photo or video editing. However, if you want true colors, better hook it up to a monitor with a good color coverage.
ASUS also boasts the flicker-free and low blue light hardware TÜV Rheinland certification.
Processor
The ASUS V16 is equipped with either Intel Core 5 210H or Intel Core 7 240H. The Intel Core 5 Series 2 is an 8-core 12-thread processor. Among the total 8 cores, four are Efficient-core while the remaining are Performance-core.
The Core 5 runs at a base frequency of 2.2GHz. However, the efficient-core can reach up to 3.6GHz when you enable Intel’s Turbo Boost. And under heavy workload it can reach up to 4.8GHz, while staying within safe temperature and power limits.
On the other hand, the Intel Core 7 is a 10-core 16-thread processor, where 4 cores are Efficient-core and the remaining are Performance-core.
The Core 7 runs at a 2.5GHz base frequency. The Efficient-core runs at 4GHz when you enable Turbo Boost. Finally, on a heavy workload, it reaches up to 5.2GHz, while staying within safe temperature and power limits.
Unfortunately, neither of the processors has a dedicated NPU to handle AI-related computing and development work, which seems to be a hot topic nowadays.
Hardware
The laptop includes a single 16GB DDR5 RAM stick and a 512 GB / 1TB SSD. Plus ASUS also left room for a memory upgrade with an extra SO-DIMM slot.
Finally, the ASUS V16 comes with an RTX 4050, which screams the word “budget”. However, it does come with next-gen features like DLSS 3. So, the GPU is a solid choice for casual gaming and light creative work.
That said, while the laptop has a powerful processor, the entry-level GPU in the RTX 4000 series might limit its full potential, causing a bottleneck.
Ports and Connectivity
The V16 offers a wide range of port selections, including a USB 3.2 Type-C port with Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.4, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack.
As for wireless connectivity, the ASUS V16 features WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. Additionally, you will also find an IR sensor next to the 720P webcam for facial recognition and supports Windows Hello.
Battery
The ASUS V16 has a 63Wh 3-cell Li-ion battery. While most gaming laptops use a 4-cell battery, the 3-cell design likely helps keep it lightweight. Furthermore, the battery capacity is also quite on the lower side.
However, since it’s a gaming laptop, you’ll likely use it plugged in most of the time. Just don’t expect an outstanding battery backup.
For charging, it uses a 150W AC adapter. Besides this, you can even use the USB Type-C port to charge with a 100W power source.
ASUS V16 Price in Nepal and Availability
