Nothing Phone (3a) Series Announced in Nepal — Prices Are a Mixed Bag!

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Nothing Phone (3a) series price in Nepal starts at Rs. 48,999 (8/128GB).

The sensational smartphone company, Nothing, launched the Phone (3a) series, comprising of the standard model and the Phone (3a) Pro, on 4 March 2025. Without missing a beat, the Nepali wing of the company announced the pre-booking, offers, and the price for the latest smartphones.

The Nothing Phone (3a)’s prices are pretty decent. We are looking at a hike of about Rs. 3,000 from the Phone (2a), which sounds like a steal for the upgrades we get.

However, the pricing for the Phone (3a) Pro does not instill much confidence. After all, it’s Rs. 7,000 more expensive, and for what? A little better camera hardware?

Latest Mobile Prices

What stings even more is that this pricing places it in the same bracket as Vivo V40, Honor 200, and Xiaomi 14T. All of which bolster serious imaging capabilities along with higher-end internals.

We will later see how this phone fares out against the competition during the review process, and we will definitely let you know.

That being said, let’s look at the Nothing Phone (3a) series in further detail in this article.

Nothing Phone (3a) Series Overview

Design

Design has always been an edge of Nothing phones, and the Phone (3a) series is no different. The base model resembles its predecessor, Phone (2a). The upper half is pretty much the same, with glyphs sitting in the same place.

The only difference would be the elongated camera island to accommodate the extra camera. Meanwhile, the bottom half now looks much cleaner as the wiggly intestine-like decorative ribbon cables are replaced with standard-looking ones.

Likewise, the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro shares nearly the same design language as the base model. However, it has a larger camera dial or a “plateau” — as dubbed by the likes of MKBHD and JerryRigEverything — which gives the phone a distinct look. Also, the camera arrangement is totally unorthodox and eye-catching, to say the least.

Colour-wise, the base model ships in Black, White, and Blue. The latter of which I find tastefully vibrant. Similarly, the Pro model is only available in Black and Grey.

This time, the Nothing Phone (3a) series gets a tempered glass back panel and an IP64 rating. The Phone (2a), in comparison, made do with a plastic back and an IP54 rating. The newer phones still have a plastic frame, which is alright as its matte texture gives it a more premium look.

Essential Key

The new thing the Nothing Phone (3a) introduces is the “Essential Key” — a capsule-like button that sits right below the power key. (The volume rockers and the other side.)

It was teased as “Your second memory”, which gave an impression that it would be a camera button that would let us capture “memories”. But, thankfully, it was not an Apple’s camera button knock-off. That would have been so bland.

So what is it?

Well, it’s a multi-purpose button that captures on-screen content with a single press and records voice memos with a long press. Additionally, double pressing gives us access to the “Essential Space”, where everything is stored and organised by “AI”.

It’s basically, what I would like to call it, “a glorified Notes app”. Also, it’s pretty much the only time Nothing mentions using AI on the Phone (3a) series. So, no unnecessary AI integration, I guess.

Cameras

Next up are the optics — definitely, the one big aspect of the phone that Nothing has paid the most attention to. It is also the only aspect the Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro differ from one other, apart from the design.

The standard model has a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultrawide snapper. As such, the Nothing Phone (3a) becomes the only phone in its price range with a telephoto lens!

Moving on to the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro, it also features 50MP main and 8MP ultrawide shooters. However, the main sensor is marginally larger, and the regular telephoto lens is replaced with a 50MP periscope counterpart. This lens is coupled with a Sony LYT-600 sensor and is also capable of OIS.

Furthermore, the periscope lens grants the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro macro capabilities and also makes it the only non-flagship smartphone with such a setup.

On the front, the base Phone (3a) packs a 32MP unit, while the Pro model gets a higher resolution 50MP unit.

Display

Staying on the front, we get a 6.77-inch AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution (1,080 x 2,392) and 10-bit colour depth (1.07 billion colours). It has a pixel density of 387 PPI and offers an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

Similarly, you get a touch sampling and PWM dimming rate of up to 1,000Hz and 2,160Hz, respectively. In terms of brightness, even though the panel peaks at 3,000 nits, it typically hovers at around 800 nits and reaches 1,300 nits when outdoors.

The screen is protected by Panda Glass, which is a Chinese alternative to Corning’s offerings and could be on a similar level to Gorilla Glass 3.

Both Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro have the same display and every other hardware, here and out.

Hardware

Under the hood, the phones have the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 with 4nm fabrication and a peak clock speed of up to 2.5GHz. This chipset is good enough for the base model.

However, I have concerns about whether I can say the same for the Pro model. This is because it competes at a higher price bracket, where almost all the other options rock a more potent silicon.

Talking of the configurations, the base model comes in 8/128GB and 12/256GB options. In the meantime, the Pro model only comes in the latter option.

Both the phones also feature a 4,500 mm² vapour chamber made of steel that supposedly reduces the phone’s temperature by up to 25%.

Battery and the rest

The powerhouse on the Nothing Phone (3a) series is a 5,000mAh lithium-ion unit that supports 50W of charging speed. They also support reverse charging of up to 7.5W, only wired though. Unsurprisingly, no wireless charging support whatsoever.

This would also be the perfect time to point out that these phones do not come with a power adapter in the box. So, you will have to buy one separately.

On the software side of things, the latest Nothing Phones boot on Nothing OS 3.1, which is layered on top of Android 15. The brand has been hailed for having a good software experience, so no worries on that end.

Additionally, you are getting three years of Android updates and six years of security patches.

Lastly, there is one subtle difference between the Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro, which is eSIM support — only available for the pricier model.

While the Nothing Phone (3a) has a solid footing with its price, the Pro variant faces harsher competition.
