Vivo Y04 Overview
Design
Design-wise, the Vivo Y04 smartphone comes in a pretty basic form factor. The build is entirely plastic, with the body, side rails, and back panel made entirely out of composite plastic.
The phone continues to sport a flat frame that gives it a boxy appearance. The right side of the frame houses the volume buttons and power, which also functions as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Whereas, the SIM card tray is located on the left side. Meanwhile, the charging port and the headphone jack sit on the bottom.
Despite the plastic build, the smartphone has IP64 water and dust-resistant certification with a responsive wet-hand touch interaction. More importantly, the Y04 claims a 6 x 4 protection matrix that ensures 24-dimension charging protection against current, voltage, and temperature.
The 5-star SGS-certified drop resistance and Military-Grade Shock Resistance prioritizes the drop and shock resistance. Moreover, the structure boasts a 7-layer protection which combines rugged copper-nickel armor to a soft PE foam cushion and sleek aluminum cover.
It claims protection against a 32,000 times drop test, –20℃ to 50℃ extreme temperature test, 150,000 times volume button press test, 500,000 times power button press test, and 20,000 times USB plugging and unplugging under internal testing conditions, which might not be applicable in day-to-day usage.
Lastly, the rear of the Vivo Y04 consists of two cutouts for the camera lenses housed in a prominent camera bump–somewhat emulating design similarities to the iPhone 16. It features an ultra-bright flashlight for absolute clarity in the dark. Besides that, the back is flat and has a clean and uniform color.
Additionally, Vivo Y04 comes in Jade Green and Titanium Gold colors.
Display
The display of the Vivo Y04 is a 6.74-inch IPS LCD panel. It has a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz. It comes with TUV Low Blue Light Technology for all-day eye comfort.
The pixel density is 260 ppi and has 570 nits HBM. The panel is an slimmed down waterdrop notch panel that houses the selfie camera. It is surrounded by thick bezels all around and has a prominent chin on the bottom.
The IPS LCD panels with 260ppi are common in these price brackets. However, the Redmi 14C opts for a slightly larger 6.88-inch display that pushes up to 120Hz refresh rate and 600 nits HBM.

Hardware
Powering the Vivo Y04 is a Unisoc T7225 processor. The chip is manufactured using a 12nm process. Spec-wise, the CPU consists of 2x 1.8 GHz Cortex-A75 performance cores and 6x 1.8 GHz Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, making it an octa-core processor. A Mail-G52 MP1 GPU handles all the graphics processing.
While the Unisoc T7225 pushes out respectable performance for the price, the Redmi 14C slightly outperforms the Vivo Y04 in the performance cores. In contrast, the HMD Crest–priced at Rs. 19000–has better-balanced specs which include a more efficient T760 chipset based on a 6nm process and 90Hz OLED panel.
Memory-wise, the Y04 comes with 4GB of RAM across 64GB and 128GB of non-removable storage. The smartphone also supports external storage expansion of up to 2TB through a microSD card.
Cameras
The Vivo Y04 comes with a 13MP main camera that has a f/2.2 aperture. The auxiliary camera has a mere 0.08MP with f/3.0 aperture. The main camera can record up to 1080p at 30fps.
The selfie camera is a 5MP shooter that has an aperture of f/2.2. It can record videos as well.
vivo Y04 boasts Intelligent Imaging which provides AI features like an AI Eraser to erase unwanted objects and AI Photo Enhance to sharpen the details.
Battery and OS
The battery in the Vivo Y04 is a 5500mAh BlueVolt for all-day use. The BlueVolt technology claims long battery health of up to 5 years, where the battery will retain 80% capacity after 1600 cycles. It charges through a USB-C port with supports 15W charging.
The upgrade from 5000mAh in Y03 to 5500mAh in Y04 is an appreciative change. Vivo could have used this opportunity to push the charging from 15W to at least 18W. Perhaps, we will see that upgrade in the Y05.
That being said, Vivo Y04 ships with Android 14 and has Funtouch 14 skin applied on top.

The Vivo Y04 is an entry-level device that comes equipped with a decent processor, 4GB of RAM, and a choice between either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. The phone has a 13MP main camera and a 5500mAh battery that supports 15W charging.
Interestingly enough, the Vivo Y04 not only does a decent job of checking the basic checklist for an entry-level smartphone but prioritizes design, durability, and long-term use through different certifications.
The nearest rivals–Redmi 14C and Tecno Spark 20–offer a similar experience at relatively similar prices. However, these phones have slightly higher performance, responsive 120Hz refresh rates, and 18W fast charging.
