Triumph Speed 400 has just become pricier in Nepal once again. In this second round of price revisions, the model not only sees an increase in cost but also introduces a new updated iteration called the MY25.

Hansraj and Hulaschand, the official distributor of Triumph Motorcycles in Nepal, have introduced the new Triumph Speed 400 MY25. This updated version replaces the first batch showcased at the 2025 NADA Auto Show and features a few subtle yet meaningful changes.

Both the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X have seen a slight price increase, although this has had little to no impact on their popularity. Triumph Nepal has already sold over 2,000 units across the country.

Triumph Motorcycles, the iconic UK-based manufacturer, has long played a defining role in shaping modern motorcycling. Beyond its rich heritage, the brand is celebrated for its solid build quality, refined craftsmanship, and sophisticated electronics that elevate both performance and safety.

Triumph Speed 400 Overview

Design

The front section features a traditional round LED headlamp that pays tribute to the brand’s heritage, surrounded by a sleek bezel. Flanking it are a pair of minimalist, circular rearview mirrors mounted on black stalks extending from the aluminum single-piece handlebars.

The golden front forks immediately draw attention, thanks to the presence of the Upside-Down Suspension System, which adds a premium touch to the design. The radiator sits prominently beneath the frame, while the coolant reservoir is neatly tucked into the underbelly.

From the side, the Speed 400 strikes a perfect balance between classic design and contemporary sophistication. The iconic Triumph logo takes center stage on the sculpted fuel tank, which is cleverly shaped to prevent the handlebars from making contact during sharp turns.

The slightly stepped, single-piece seat, unlike the split unit on the Scrambler 400 X, features high-quality upholstery for added comfort and style. The cushioning has been thickened by 10 mm in the MY25 model, offering better comfort during longer rides.

The engine area showcases a clean, refined look with decorative fins that echo Triumph’s traditional design language. The 17-inch tyres sit on 10-spoke cast aluminum alloy wheels. As part of the MY25 update, the front tyre’s sidewall has been increased from a 110/70-section to a 110/80-section, while the rear remains unchanged. This subtle change helps deliver a more comfortable and composed ride.

At the rear, the Speed 400 continues the blend of classic and modern styling. The compact LED taillight is elegantly integrated into the bodywork, accompanied by two small, clear-lens LED indicators. Unlike the Scrambler 400 X’s dual-barrel setup, the Speed 400 features a single-barrel exhaust.

The instrument cluster combines an analog speedometer with a digital screen, maintaining Triumph’s signature retro-modern theme. It includes indicators for engine management, oil pressure, engine temperature, traction control, and ABS. Performance

Triumph Speed 400 is powered by a 398.15cc, Single-Cylinder, Liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine. It produces a max power of 40 PS at 8000 rpm and a max torque of 37.5 Nm at 6500 rpm. Moreover, it is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with 13 liters of fuel capacity.

Both the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X share the same engine but differ slightly in their sprocket configurations, with 15/43 on the Speed 400 and 14/43 on the Scrambler. Originally, both bikes came with a class-leading 16,000 km service interval, which was among the best in their segment. However, Triumph Nepal has revised this to 8,000 km or six months to better suit local roads and conditions.

There has been some discussion about the Speed 400 sharing its engine roots with the KTM Duke 390. While they may have similar displacement, their engineering and tuning philosophies are very different. The KTM engine is built to deliver peak power at higher revs, offering a more aggressive top-end feel, while the Triumph focuses on stronger low and mid-range torque for smoother and more usable performance.

The differences extend beyond tuning. The chain drive placement, for example, is on the right side in the Speed 400 but on the left in the Duke 390. Even the sprocket setup varies, with 15/43 on the Duke 390 and 14/43 on the Speed 400. These differences show that the Triumph engine is not a rebadged KTM unit but a completely new design developed independently.

Additional Details

The suspension duties on the Speed 400 are handled by 43 mm Upside Down Big Piston forks at the front with 140 mm of wheel travel, and a gas-charged monoshock RSU at the rear offering 120 mm of travel.

In terms of dimensions, the Speed 400 measures 2056 mm in length, 814 mm in width, and 1084 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1,386 mm. The bike offers a ground clearance of 170 mm.

There are a few subtle changes to the seat height and kerb weight in the MY25 version. With the thicker seat cushioning, the seat height has increased to 803 mm, which is 13 mm higher than before. The kerb weight now stands at 179 kg, making it 3 kg heavier than the previous version.
