Triumph Speed 400 Overview
Design
The front of the Triumph Speed 400 features a traditional round headlamp that pays homage to the brand’s heritage, surrounded by a modern, sleek bezel that incorporates LED DRLs.
Flanking the headlamp, a pair of minimalist, circular rearview mirrors mounted on black stalks enhances its retro appeal.
The golden front forks add a touch of premium quality and sturdiness, hinting at the Upside Down Suspension System. The radiator is openly visible at the belly of the motorbike, while the coolant container sits at the underbelly.
From the side, the Triumph Speed 400 exhibits a perfect balance between vintage aesthetics and contemporary flair.
The iconic Triumph logo prominently displays on the fuel tank, which is scooped out on either side to avoid handlebar contact when turning.
The slightly stepped but not split seat is upholstered in high-quality material for added comfort and style.
The side view of the engine section showcases a beautiful design with decorative fins and a clean finish. Furthermore, the brushed metal exhaust system, with a dual-tone finish, highlights its performance-oriented character.
The black chassis and suspension components provide a sleek contrast to the metallic and colorful elements but still creates a cohesive and visually appealing profile.

At the rear, the Triumph Speed 400 continues the blend of classic and modern elements. The tail light is compact and elegantly integrated into the bike’s design, accompanied by two small, clear-lens turn signals.
Looking at the instrument cluster, it does not offer a TFT display but a classy mix of analog and digital readings.
The Speed output occupies most of the space which is concentric with the check lights for the Engine Management Light, Oil Pressure Light, Engine Temperature Warning Light, Traction Control and ABS.
However, the RPM meter is a little hard to read due to its smaller size. And, it misses on the Bluetooth Connectivity feature.
Performance
Triumph Speed 400 is powered by a 398.15cc, Single-Cylinder, Liquid-cooled, 4 valve, DOHC engine.
It can generate a max power of 40 PS at 8000 rpm and a max torque of 37.5 Nm at 6500 rpm. Moreover, it is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with 13 liters of fuel capacity.
Speed 400 has a Bosch-designed Electronic Fuel Injection along with an Electronic Throttle Control.
The Service Interval of the Speed 400 is notably impressive, boasting a class-leading 16,000 km service interval, which is truly remarkable! However, the interval will be retweaked for the Nepali market.
Despite the concerns, the Triumph Speed 400’s engine is different from the KTM Duke 390’s or the Dominar 400’s.
This is evident from the chain drive position, which is on the right side in the Speed 400, whereas it is on the left side for the Duke 390.
This significant engineering difference indicates a new engine, as changing the chain drive layout would require altering the entire engine design significantly.
