Skywell ET5 is now officially available in Nepal.

G Motors, the authorized distributor of Skywell electric vehicles in Nepal, has launched its first luxury electric SUV in the Nepali market.

Skywell was one of the first batch of new energy vehicle manufacturers in China, becoming the first Chinese manufacturers to obtain EU product certification.

Skywell ET5 marks the first entry of the brand in the Nepali market. It is the first electric vehicle in Nepal with a whopping 620 KM NEDC (or 520KM WLTP) range as per the company’s claim!

It is officially available for test drives and bookings at the new Skywell showroom at Radhe Radhe, Bhaktapur.

Additionally, Skywell ET5 comes with an 8-year (or 2,00,00 km) warranty.

Interestingly enough, the Skywell ET5 was previously named the Skyworth EV6. However, the company renamed the electric SUV to avoid confusion with the Kia EV6.

That is why it will be officially known as Skywell ET5 in the Nepali market.

Addressing the C-NCAP Safety Rating Confusion

There has been some confusion regarding its safety ratings, as the C-NCAP site shows a 1-star rating, while the company claims a 5-star rating.

We understand that safety is important for all vehicles. While the older iteration had a 1-star rating which was tested in 2022, we have worked tirelessly to improve the safety of the driver and passengers in the newer 2023-2024 Skywell ET5 that adheres to the 5-star CNAP Safety Rating.

In July 2023, the China-New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP) carried out a series of crash tests, under the guidance of the China Automotive Research and Technology Center, on the Skywell ET5 to determine the safety and resiliency of vehicles in crash situations.

According to the released statement, the 2023 Skywell ET5 achieved good results in safety assessments, securing four perfect scores and two near-perfect ones.

The comprehensive data reveals impressive figures: an ADAS total score of 47.423 out of 48, resulting in a remarkable scoring rate of 98.97%, and a score of 13.764 in the side pillar impact test.

Expert analysis confirms that these results in the C-NCAP test equate to a 5-star Safety Rating as stated in the Skywell Panama and Skywell Turkey.

Considering the presence of Skywell ET5 in those countries, the information does seem to have credible backing. However, we cannot verify it in-depthly as this information is not available on the C-NCAP official website.

To reiterate, the 2022 and older versions of the Skywell ET5 received a 1-star rating. However, the 2023 and newer Skywell ET5 models have received a 5-star safety rating according to the company.

Skywell ET5 Overview

Design

Skywell ET5 sports a traditional large SUV styling.

The front sections get a Laser Matrix Headlamp with Scythe LED DRLs. Except for the unique-looking lights, the overall front has been kept clean.

It comes with a sealed grill with sporty silver accent bumpers.

The side profile continues with the same elegant design. It gets a sharp line that goes from the front to the rear section.

Performance

Skywell ET5 is powered by a 150kW Electric Motor. It generates a max power of 204PS and a max torque of 320Nm, capable of 160km/h top speed.

It is supported by an 85.96 kWh Lithium Ternary Battery, claiming a max range of 620KM NEDC (or 520Km WLTP).

The 11kW AC CCS Type 2 Charger can fully charge the vehicle in 8 hours. Additionally, there is support for a 90kW DC Charger which brings the charge time to just 1 hour and 30 minutes.

ET5 gets a Single-Stage Reducer gearbox with a 3-in-1 Efficient Integration Drive System.

Skywell ET5 is equipped with an NMC battery instead of an LFP battery typically seen in this price range. While not necessarily a disadvantage, it is something to point out.

Additional Features

MacPherson and Multi-Link Independent handle suspension duties.

The dimensions are 4720mm in length, 1908mm in width, and 1696mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 2800mm.

Skywell ET5 gets a 197mm ground clearance. And, the kerb weight sits at 1880kg.

It gets a 467-liter boot space, which is expandable up to 1141 liters.
