What is the Price of Redmi Watch 6 Active in Nepal?

The Redmi Watch 6 Active price in Nepal is Rs 10,999. It is available for purchase through authorised physical stores only for now. It will eventually be available online as well.

The pricing of the Watch 6 Active is quite a step up from its predecessor. After all, the Watch 5 Active launched at a measly Rs 4,499. If we compare launch prices of the two, the latest offering from Redmi is nearly 2.5 times more expensive.

But that wouldn’t really be fair, because Watch 5 Active also received a price bump sometime between then and now. Even considering the updated price, Redmi Watch 6 Active costs about 57% more.

Guess it’s safe to say Redmi Watch 6 Active is no longer a budget offering. But there are reasons why this watch costs considerably more, with the ongoing memory shortage being the major contributor. After all, these watches also need memory and storage.

That said, let’s take a look at what the new Redmi Watch 6 Active has to offer in further detail in this article:

Redmi Watch 6 Active Overview

The overall design language of this smartwatch remains unchanged as it ships with the same kind of quick-release strap and button layout as its predecessor. That isn’t to say that this watch looks exactly the same, as the newer watch has a much sharper and boxier look.

Apart from that, the watch has gone down in dimensions all around, with the thickness now measuring just 9.9mm, compared to the previous 11.4mm. The IP rating has also improved from IPX8 to IP68. Meaning, the Watch 6 Active is now a proper water- and dust-resistant device, unlike its predecessor, which only offered water resistance.

That said, the frame is still made of PC polymer, or plastic in other words. And as for colours, we are getting Midnight Black, Matte Silver, and of course, orange — Sunset Orange, to be specific.

Now, moving on to the most significant upgrade we got this time, i.e. the display. The Redmi Watch 6 Active comes with an AMOLED screen. It stretches 1.85 inches with a resolution of 390 x 450 pixels.

While the screen size has slightly shrunk, the pixel count has gone up. That, paired with the fact that it’s now an AMOLED, should mean the display should look much more vivid by comparison.

Other than that, the Redmi Watch 6 Active is practically the same. It packs the same acceleration and optical heart rate sensors and relies on Bluetooth v5.3 for connectivity and calling. The battery is also the same at 470mAh, which I was genuinely surprised to see not change.

That would still be fine if battery life had been improved by better software optimisation. After all, the watch does come with a UI refresh, meaning there were some software tweaks.

But it seems the battery life could have worsened instead, as the company now states 18 days of battery life under light usage and 12 days of backup on normal usage. Xiaomi previously quoted “18 days under typical usage mode” and “12 days under heavy usage mode”.

While the quoted numbers are the same, it’s the wording that concerns me, because I would generally assume “normal usage” to mean the same as “typical usage”. But I could just be reading too much into it, and Xiaomi intended to say the same thing.

In that case, we can expect the same level of battery life on the Redmi Watch 6 Active as with the previous iteration.

As I stated before, the Redmi Watch 5 Active was one of the best budget smartwatches you could get. It had all the right things, whether it be price, brand value or features. But with prices rocketing, could the same be said about the Redmi Watch 6 Active?

I still think yes, considering the entry point for budget smartwatches has gone up similar to smartphones. For now, I would still grab the Watch 5 Active and compromise on the display. But that’s a ticking clock.

As for competition, this watch is mostly up against local OEM brands, which, with their third-party software, don’t exactly feel premium to interact with. The only true competition here is the realme Watch 5, which also recently launched in Nepal.

Personally, I like the sportier look of the realme Watch better, and it also edges the Redmi Watch 6 Active slightly on the specs sheet. But saying they are about the same wouldn’t be an exaggeration either.
