The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G is available in three color options: Graphite Grey, Aurora Green, and Sky Blue. Its compact size and sleek design firmly establish it as a mini tablet.

Display

The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G flaunts an 8.7-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth transitions and an immersive viewing experience. The display is Widevine L1 certified and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

With a 5:3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 800 x 1340 pixels, the Redmi Pad Se 8.7 4G delivers a pixel density of 179ppi. While it may not win any awards for sharpness, it excels in other areas, such as its 10-bit color depth and TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light (software-based) and Flicker Free certification. These features make it ideal for reading PDFs and watching content.

The LCD panel on the device gets 2048 levels of brightness adjustment, peaking at 500 nits in regular brightness mode and 600 nits in outdoor mode. Despite sizeable bezels, the device achieves an impressive 84.41% screen-to-body ratio.

Hardware

Powering up the mini tablet is a 4-year-old MediaTek Helio G85 SoC, which is efficient enough for everyday tasks. However, heavy usage may present challenges, especially since Xiaomi has removed basic power user features such as split screen and multi-window. The chipset is paired with Mali G52 MC2 GPU, meaning casual gaming shouldn’t be an issue.

It comes with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM as standard. Due to the dated SoC, the storage is eMMC 5.1, which is decent but would benefit from UFS storage for faster performance.

The only storage configuration is 128GB, which is great and can also be further expanded up to 2TB via the dedicated microSD card slot.

Camera

The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G houses a single 8MP rear camera capable of recording 1080p videos at 30 fps. While it’s unlikely to win any photography awards, it’s more than sufficient for document scanning and some normal photos.

On the front, there’s a 5MP selfie camera, ideal for video calls and online meetings.

Battery and OS

The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G is powered by a 6650mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging via USB C 2.0 port, along with PD and QC charging. Despite supporting 18W fast charging, Xiaomi bundles a 10W adapter in the box.

The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G runs Hyper OS on top of Android 14, similar to its larger and more expensive siblings, which is a plus.
