Redmi Buds 6 Play Overview
Design
Redmi Buds 6 Play, just like Buds 6 and Buds 6 Active, has a flat-flip case with a “Redmi” icon on the top. There is an LED indicator on the front and a pair/reset button on the side.
The earbuds have a bean-shaped design, and a single earbud weighs just 3.6g, the lightest earbuds in the Redmi Buds 6 family. In total, the case and the earbuds weigh 40g.
The case has a matte finish, while the earbuds are glossy. The Redmi Buds 6 Play comes with two extra silicon earbuds tips for a comfortable fit. Here, they only come in Black and White colors. Meaning that the Nepali audience is unfortunately missing out on the Blue and Pink variants launched globally.
The earbuds are IPX4-rated for protection against water splashes. The IP rating does not apply to the charging case.
Audio
The Redmi Buds 6 Play have a 10mm driver and provide “AI noise cancellation” during calls. However, it does not have ANC, given its price.
The Buds 6 Play offers you 5 EQ modes: a standard mode and one each for enhancing bass, voice, treble, and volume. You can access these EQs through a companion app named the Xiaomi Earbuds, available on both the Play Store and the App Store.
Connectivity
The Redmi Buds 6 Play uses Bluetooth v5.4 to connect with your smartphone or computer. It supports Google Fast Pair, which allows you to connect the buds to your Android phone as soon as you open the cover.
The pair/reset button allows to quickly pair to a new device. It comes especially in handy as it rids the hassle of having to unpair the earbuds on the previously connected device.
The Redmi Buds 6 features one-tap touch controls for music playback, calls, and voice assistant activation. You can customize the touch controls using the Xiaomi Earbuds app.
There is also a Low Latency mode of up to 180ms, though it is only supported on Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, and POCO F6 as of now.
Battery
The charging case packs a 600mAh battery, whereas the earbuds have a 57mAh unit each. The buds give you up to 7.5 hours of playback time on a single charge and 36 hours when combined with the charging case. Both at 50% volume with noise reduction off. In my opinion, this is quite low given the 600mAh battery.
If you want a quick charge, the earbuds support fast charging, which gives 3 hours of playtime in 10 minutes. But the charging case must have at least 35% battery to fast charge.
You can charge the Redmi Buds 6 Play using a Type-C charger. Surprisingly, there isn’t any Type-C cable included in the package.
