New Variant of Redmi 9A with 3GB RAM Launched in Nepal

Xiaomi has launched a new variant of the Redmi 9A in Nepal. The new variant has 3GB of RAM, compared to the 2GB of RAM on the old variant, which was launched in 2020 along with the Redmi 9.

Redmi 9A price in Nepal is Rs. 11,499 for the 2GB RAM variant and Rs. 13,999 for the 3GB RAM variant.

It is the upgrade to the Redmi 8A and it’s the lite version of the Redmi 9. So, what do we get with Redmi 9A? Let’s see!

Redmi 9A Overview

Design

Redmi 9A comes in a new polished look with a textured finish on the back. It’s a plastic back so it won’t retain fingerprints. It looks like the camera module from Redmi 8A has been shifted to the right side.

Else, most of the things look similar including the fact that it doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor.

On the front, it has a dewdrop notch with minimal bezels and a thin chin.

Display

Redmi 9A has a 6.53 inch IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. It’s an HD+ display with a claimed brightness of 400 nits.

It has a screen-to-body ratio of 81.1% but any kind of protection is not mentioned.

Hardware

Redmi 9 uses the new Mediatek Helio G25 chipset. It’s a 12nm chipset with Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and PowerVR GE8320 (650 MHz) GPU. Then, it has 2/3GB RAM and 32GB ROM.

Mediatek Helio G25 looks very similar to the Mediatek Helio P35 processor. It is slightly underclocked at 2.0 GHz compared to P35 which is clocked at 2.3 GHz. However, both of the chipsets use PowerVR GE8320 GPU clocked at 650 MHz.

Camera

In terms of camera, Redmi 9A has a 13MP main sensor on the rear. On the front, it has a 5MP f/2.0 selfie camera.

Battery

It runs on a 5000 mAh battery with 10W fast charging. The battery should easily last more than a day. Xiaomi claims 168 hours of music playback, 38 hours of calling, and 19 hours of video playback.

Furthermore, it runs on MIUI 12 on top of Android 10. And, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack as well.

Redmi 9A price in Nepal is Rs. 11,499 for the 2GB RAM variant and Rs. 13,999 for the 3GB RAM variant. It is available to buy via 1800+ Mi offline stores all over Nepal.

Redmi 9A doesn’t feel like a great upgrade to the Redmi 8A. Helio G25 performs on a similar level to Snapdragon 439 and Snapdragon 439 might even edge ahead of Helio G25 in some cases. So, it doesn’t feel like an upgrade in that sense.

Then, Redmi 8A and 9A have the same battery capacity but it’s weird that Redmi 9A doesn’t have fast charging which is available on the Redmi 8A.

Well, Redmi 9A is certainly a good entry-level phone but it doesn’t feel like an upgrade.
