President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has joined Twitter on Monday.

Why it Matters:

• According to President Bhandari’s Chief Personal Secretary, Bheshraj Adhikari, President Bhandari’s Twitter handle is @PresidentofNP. Adhikari said that President Bhandari joined Twitter with an objective of direct connection with the people.

• There are many other government officials of Nepal on Twitter including K.P. Sharma Oli, Gagan Thapa, and Baburam Bhattarai. Apart from government individuals, there are Twitter accounts of the government offices as well, including that of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Finance.
• Hello Sarkar, a hotline established with an aim to record the grievances of the general public, is also active on Twitter.

In her first tweet, President Bhandari has appreciated the government’s effort in children’s access to education.
