The IM6, along with future models from IM Motors, will be distributed in Nepal by Paramount Motors. This partnership makes perfect sense, as IM Motors is the luxury sub-brand of MG, and Paramount Motors already serves as the authorized distributor of MG vehicles in Nepal.

What sets IM Motors apart is its origin. Established in 2020, IM Motors is a joint venture between SAIC Motor, Alibaba Group, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. Since SAIC Motor also owns MG, the IM lineup is often closely associated with the MG brand.

But, unlike MG Nepal’s current portfolio, which includes a variety of models ranging from the budget-friendly Comet EV to the mid-size S5 EV, the IM range will focus exclusively on premium and luxury electric vehicles. But luxury comes at a price… right?

Moreover, the IM6 has been officially launched in Nepal and is now available for purchase through MG showrooms nationwide.

MG IM6 Overview

Exterior

The IM6 stands out as one of the most attractive cars on the road today. It looks sharp and fast, yet carries a delicate elegance. This unique combination stems from its design philosophy called “Gentle Sculpture,” which blends aerodynamic efficiency (Drag Coefficient: 0.242) with a pleasing aesthetic.

At the front, the IM6 showcases its aerodynamic prowess with a bold, purposeful stance. It features striking L-shaped LED headlamps paired with integrated DRLs. These headlamps include a feature called Rainy Night Mode, which uses radar, cameras, and sensors to create a clear visual projection of the surroundings on the screen during low visibility conditions.

From the side, the car’s size becomes evident, thanks to its nearly 3-meter wheelbase. The flush door handles are unlike conventional ones as they fully pop out from the body and open with just a light push. The coupe-inspired silhouette merges SUV presence with the sleek, sporty charm of a Grand Tourer.

Its sloping roofline adds visual flair while also enhancing aerodynamic performance by reducing drag. The IM6 rides on 20-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli New Scorpion tires. Moreover, with a ground clearance of 175 mm, the car handles urban roads and light off-road conditions comfortably.

Coming to the rear, the slanted roof and sleek rear glass flow into the power tailgate (also gesture-controlled), completing the coupe-like profile. Also, the full-width slim LED tail lamp spans the entire rear, featuring dynamic animations for turn signals and braking.

Finally, the IM6 is available in a variety of exterior color options, including Blue, White, Grey, Beige, Black, and Pink.

Interior

Step inside the MG IM6, and you’re greeted by a tech-rich, luxurious cabin designed with comfort and innovation in mind.

The interior features premium synthetic leather upholstery available in light (Beige) or dark (Grey). All key touchpoints come wrapped in leatherette with fine stitching and plush padding, creating a high-quality tactile experience throughout the cabin.

The seats deserve a special mention. They offer excellent ergonomics with supportive padding and a strong focus on thigh support, echoing the comfort expected from a Grand Tourer. The driver’s seat provides 12-way Electronic Adjustability, including a 4-way Lumbar Support system. The front passenger seat comes with 6-way Power Adjustability. Both front seats, along with the steering wheel, include Heating and Ventilation functions for added comfort.

The dashboard houses a dual 10.5-inch Touchscreen System. The left screen manages infotainment while the right one functions as the digital instrument cluster, collectively known as the IM Multi-Screen Interactive System (IMOS).

In the center console, a large 26.3-inch Display adds another layer of control, allowing access to multiple car functions and infotainment settings. A Ventilated Wireless Charging Pad sits beneath this screen, helping prevent overheating while charging.

The IM6 comes equipped with AI-powered cabin technology that supports both voice commands and gesture recognition. IM Motors promotes the interior as an intelligent space, designed to encourage users to interact directly with the system through these intuitive controls rather than depending solely on touchscreen inputs for everyday tasks. While voice assistance has become a common feature in most modern EVs, one of the IM6’s key selling points is its advanced and highly responsive interface.

The audio department is taken care of by a 20-speaker setup that includes four ceiling-mounted Sky Speakers. This system delivers immersive sound, further enhanced by a customizable equalizer and Road Noise Cancellation (RNC) technology. A large Panoramic Sunroof completes the cabin, letting in abundant natural light and elevating the sense of space in an already spacious cabin.

Performance

The IM6 is equipped with a 109 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), stepping slightly away from the more common 99 kW benchmark. This motor delivers a max power of 148 PS and an impressive 450 Nm of torque, which significantly outperforms rivals like the BYD Atto 3 with 310 Nm and even the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with 350 Nm.

And, powering the motor is a 75 kWh LFP battery pack that provides a WLTP-certified range of 450 km. With an 11 kW AC charger, the battery can be fully charged from 0 to 100 percent in approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes. For faster top-ups, the IM6 supports up to 153 kW DC charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes.

Beyond these specifications, the IM6 introduces a unique feature that elevates its driving dynamics. It comes with a four-wheel steering system designed to enhance both agility and stability. At lower speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels, effectively reducing the turning radius. This makes maneuvering in tight spaces and parking significantly easier.

Moreover, there are also implications of this system helping in higher speeds in instances such as lane changes and high-speed cornering.

The IM6 can reach a top speed of 210 km/h. While the official 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time has not been disclosed, the instant availability of 450 Nm of torque combined with the Rear Wheel Drive suggests it will deliver an exciting and rapid burst of speed right from the start.

Additional Details

The IM6 features a Double Wishbone suspension at the front and a Multi-Link suspension at the rear. While this setup is already quite advanced, especially by Nepali market standards, the international variants of the IM6 go a step further by offering air suspension.

This air suspension, when paired with the intelligent four-wheel steering system mentioned earlier, delivers a well-rounded driving experience. The air suspension even allows the vehicle’s ride height to be adjusted based on different driving conditions.

However, including air suspension would have significantly increased the price of the IM6 in Nepal. To keep the pricing competitive, the official distributor decided not to offer this feature in the Nepali-spec model.

Moving on, the IM6 has a modest ground clearance of 175 mm. And, the gross vehicle mass, i.e., the maximum recommended weight of the vehicle when loaded fully with passengers and weight, is 2731 kg.

The vehicle provides ample storage options; 24 storage compartments in total. But the major storage is the 32-liter Frunk space and the 665-liter Boot space (expandable up to 1640 liters).

Rivals

The MG IM6 is positioned as a direct competitor to models like the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, and Hyundai Ioniq 5. However, since the Tesla Model Y is not officially available in Nepal and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 sits well above this price segment, the real competition for the IM6 in the Nepali market comes from the BYD Sealion 7.

Both MG and BYD appear to be targeting a similar audience with their offerings. To set the record straight, neither the IM6 nor the Sealion 7 sold in Nepal comes with their standard international specifications. The differences go beyond just the features and extend to the motor and battery configurations. Even so, both brands deserve recognition for their efforts in bringing these global EVs to the Nepali market.

The IM6, as discussed throughout this article, delivers impressive value at this price point. Although long-term ownership will depend heavily on MG Nepal’s after-sales support, the vehicle itself holds its ground with strong performance, a capable driving range, and a rich feature set.

In many areas, the IM6 slightly edges out the Sealion 7. For instance, it comes with a more powerful motor (109 kW vs 100 kW), a larger battery pack (75 kWh LFP vs 71.8 kWh), and a longer WLTP-certified range (450 km vs 440 km).

The IM6 also offers other advantages. It rides on larger 20-inch wheels compared to the 19-inch wheels on the Sealion 7, provides more cargo space (665 liters vs 500 liters), and features a more premium infotainment setup with a 26.3-inch screen against the 15.6-inch screen in the Sealion 7. Despite these advantages, both vehicles are priced similarly. The Sealion 7 currently retails at Rs. 72.99 Lakhs under an early bird offer, but its regular price is expected to be Rs. 74.99 Lakhs, matching the price tag of the IM6.

To the Sealion 7’s credit, it carries a 5-Star Euro NCAP safety rating right from its launch (while that for IM6 is yet to come) and benefits from BYD’s well-established presence in Nepal. As one of the flagship models from the global EV leader, the Sealion 7 offers a strong sense of trust and assurance to buyers.

MG with the IM6, on the other hand, still needs to build a similar emotional connection with Nepali consumers. Once MG strengthens its local brand perception and support for the IM6, it could stand toe-to-toe with the Sealion 7.

The head-to-head battle between these two EVs will be one to watch. As soon as we get access to sales data, we’ll update this article with real-world figures to offer more context to this comparison.
