Electric SUVs have become something of an obsession in Nepal, and SPG Automobiles is trying to position itself right at the center of that trend. As the authorized distributor of Omoda Jaecoo in the country, the company has now rolled out a brand-new electric SUV, and this time, it is the real deal. I say “real deal” because the earlier Jaecoo J6 we saw was SUV-like but didn’t fully commit to the category, leaning more toward an off-road-inspired design than a true SUV.
Despite that, the J6, marketed as an off-road-capable SUV has managed to capture a fair bit of attention and found decent success in Nepal. Riding on that momentum, SPG Automobiles celebrated its first anniversary in the Nepali market with the launch of the all-new Jaecoo J5, a model that aims to push the brand further into the electric SUV spotlight.
The Jaecoo J5 EV made its official debut at the 2025 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) and is gearing up for a fourth-quarter launch in Malaysia. Built on the same platform as its ICE sibling (which comes with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and offers both FWD and AWD options), the J5 EV is part of Jaecoo’s broader push into Southeast Asia.
But, interestingly, the electric version isn’t just a simple powertrain swap. The EV model looks noticeably different from its ICE counterpart, bringing fresh design cues that set it apart. Even more intriguing is the buzz that Nepal is one of the first market to get the J5 EV. So, should we feel excited about being at the forefront? Or should we tread carefully, knowing we might be the first ones ironing out the kinks?
What is the Price of Jaecoo J5 in Nepal?
Jaecoo J5 price in Nepal is Rs. 60.99 Lakhs. And, it is available in a single variant in Nepal.
As previously mentioned, the Jaecoo J5 made its debut at the NAIMA Mobility Expo 2025, and the distributors kicked things off with an introductory price of Rs. 56.99 Lakhs. But as it turns out, this pricing isn’t just a launch-day gimmick as it will remain in place throughout the festive season, making it a tempting option for anyone looking to make a purchase in the coming months.
Furthermore, to sweeten the deal, buyers can also take advantage of exchange bonuses, a complimentary 7kW AC charger, and one year of free insurance. Additionally, Jaecoo J5 is covered by the standard warranty of the distributor which is an 8-year Battery and Motor Warranty.
On top of that, there’s good news for those eyeing its other sibling. The Jaecoo J6 has received a significant price cut of Rs. 4 Lakhs, bringing its new effective price down to Rs. 65.99 Lakhs.

Jaecoo J5 Overview
Exterior
The Jaecoo J5 brings a bold, boxy, and minimal design that reflects modern EV aesthetics. Originally marketed with the tagline “For New Urban Youths”, a common pitch among new energy Chinese vehicles, the J5 takes a different branding route in Nepal.
Here, it’s being introduced with the tagline “High-End All-Road”, a slogan Jaecoo Nepal hasn’t fully explained yet. But going by the words, it seems to position the J5 as a luxury vehicle capable of handling all kinds of roads, not just city streets.
Now, setting the branding aside, let’s go bumper to bumper on the EV version of the J5. At the front, the J5 EV sports a slim central grille that runs right under the bonnet line. This grille features 45-degree slanted lines that form a textured, almost 3D surface, giving it a technical and looker look.

The Jaecoo logo sits in the middle, flanked by sleek LED lighting elements that merge with the grille, creating a wide and unified signature. Below that, there’s another grille-like structure on the bumper. However, this area feels visually busy, with patterns and possible air intake elements that disrupt the overall coherence of the front design. The rest of the fascia sticks to a clean, boxy aesthetic, in line with the brand’s “minimalist approach”.
From the side, the J5 features an abundance of sharp character lines and a slightly pronounced rear haunch that adds muscle to the otherwise clean profile. The C-pillar design stands out, and roof rails add a functional touch to the SUV silhouette. The J5 rides on 18-inch Alloy wheels styled with a Petal-like design.

On closer inspection, these wheels appear to incorporate aero-optimized elements, likely contributing to improved efficiency. While the side profile appears aerodynamic overall, Jaecoo has opted for conventional door handles instead of flush units, which slightly contradicts the otherwise airflow-conscious design.

At the rear, the J5 features a sleek connected Taillight bar that includes the turn indicators. The Jaecoo logo takes center stage, lending a sense of symmetry. Interestingly, the design motif from the front grille seems to echo in the taillight bar, which gives a sense of visual continuity, whether intentional or just my brain connecting the dots, it works.
Interior
But, inside, the story changes quite dramatically, and for the better. The cabin feels upmarket, with Dual-Tone Faux Leather Upholstery and soft-touch materials spread across key touchpoints. But, there are scratchy surfaces here and there.
A large 13.2-inch Portrait Infotainment Screen dominates the dashboard and controls most of the vehicle’s functions. As I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again, this centralized control layout, while stylish and tech-forward, can feel a bit cumbersome, especially for basic tasks, as we’ve experienced previously with the Jaecoo J6, due to the button-less design.

The seats are heavily perforated for Ventilation, but only for the front occupants. The center console follows a “Waterfall” design, where the infotainment screen flows smoothly into the lower console. Physical toggles sit below the screen, followed by Cup Holders, a Wireless Phone Charger (only one), an armrest, and a glovebox tucked underneath, all arranged neatly.
Jaecoo hasn’t held back on the creature comforts either. You get a Panoramic Sunroof, which for some reason they claim to be the best in the class. But, it adds to the cabin’s openness and Double-Glazed Soundproof glass that helps block out road noise for a more serene experience.
And finally, there’s a quirky, yet thoughtful touch, “Pet-friendly” features. These include extended seat areas and an advanced air filtration system designed to trap pet hair and promote a hygienic, antibacterial environment. While it might sound gimmicky at first, pet owners will likely appreciate the extra attention.
Performance
Jaecoo J5 is powered by a 155 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that generates a max power of 211 PS and a max torque of 288 Nm. It is refreshing to see that Jaecoo Nepal has chosen not to cut corners by using a motor with less than 100 kW capacity. Patience (until the Budget Announcement 2082/83), is a virtue after all.
It comes equipped with a 58.9 kWh LFP battery pack, delivering a WLTP-claimed range of 400 km. With a 7 kW AC charger can fully charge the battery from 0% to 100% in around 9 hours.

Additionally, it supports up to 130 kW of DC Charging and with it the battery can go from 30% to 80% in just about 27 minutes.
The J5 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.7 seconds, and can push all the way to a top speed of nearly 180 km/h.
Additional Details
McPherson Strut and Multi-Link handle the suspension duties.
The dimensions are 4380 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, and 1650 mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 2620 mm.
The ground clearance for the Jaecoo J5 is 185 mm.
As for storage, Jaecoo claims that there are a total of 36 storage spaces throughout the car. The largest storage area, i.e., the boot, offers 480 liters of space, and you can expand it up to 1180 liters by folding the rear seats.
There’s even a small frunk up front, which is of a modest size, but handy enough to store your charging cables or a few daily essentials.

Rivals
The Jaecoo J5 steps into a competitive segment, going head-to-head with a wide array of electric SUVs in its category. Its rivals include the BYD Atto 3, MG S5, and the newly launched Proton e.Mas 7 and Hyundai Creta Electric, and many more.
Jaecoo has made a strong impact in Nepal under the unified “Omoda Jaecoo” branding. This strategy has already shown promise since, by 2024, the company had climbed to become the fourth-largest EV seller in the country. But the road ahead is far from easy. Established players like Hyundai, MG, and BYD are charging back into the EV scene with fresh, compelling models, clearly aiming to reclaim their dominance.
BYD has doubled down with the tried-and-tested Atto 3 and the newly launched Sealion 7, both backed by its extensive EV expertise and the trusted Blade Battery. MG introduced the S5 EV that boasts RWD-backed performance with an efficient battery pack as well. Similarly, Proton entered the fray with its family-oriented yet executive-looking e.MAS 7, which also has battery pack (Short Blade Battery) that has the potential to become a benchmark.
Furthermore, Hyundai brought in the Creta Electric, playing heavily on its ICE bestseller’s nostalgic pull, and Tata unveiled the Curvv.ev, articulating its vision toward to electric mobility to its fanbase, and quite frankly, Tata’s EV push feels like a natural evolution from its ICE dominance in Nepal. Each of these brands has something memorable going for it. And the fact that they’ve made it into this conversation already proves they stand out in their own ways, whether it’s technology, legacy, or design.
Now comes the Jaecoo J5. On paper, its specifications match what the segment already offers. The SUV design feels confident and well-proportioned, but it does not deliver any groundbreaking surprises. This naturally raises the question: what sets the J5 apart in such a crowded space?
Pricing plays a role here, and the answer is both yes and no. Here lies a dilemma, i.e., Jaecoo positions itself as a “premium” brand, so an aggressive price cut would have risk undermining that perception. This makes the pricing strategy a delicate balancing act. While the official Rs. 60.99 Lakhs tag might seem steep, the current discounted offer (Rs. 56.99 Lakhs), makes the J5’s value proposition far more reasonable.
One thing is certain: Nepal’s EV market is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and competition has never been this intense. For customers, this means more choice than ever before. For brands, it means less margin for being boring and making errors. And, in fairness, Jaecoo is still finding its footing. The J5 is only the second model the company has launched in Nepal, yet the brand has already shown real potential.
However, building long-term trust takes time, consistency, and a clear brand identity. In that journey, the J5 plays a crucial role. J5 is Jaecoo’s chance to prove it can compete in the fierce e-SUV league with all the established and sustainable EV brands in Nepal. But, for now, the J5 has just arrived, so it deserves a few months of breathing space.
But what do you think? Does Nepal need more electric SUVs? Do let us know in the comments!
