Jaecoo Nepal is once again aiming for a slice of the e-SUV market of Nepal, this time with a proper SUV, the all-new J5. It is set to be unveiled and debut at the upcoming NAIMA Mobility Expo 2025.
SPG Automobiles, the authorized distributor of Omoda Jaecoo in Nepal, is preparing to expand its lineup by launching a new electric SUV. This addition, known as the Jaecoo J5 EV, belongs to the brand’s J-series of SUVs.
Following the successful launch of the Jaecoo J6 in Nepal, marketed as an off-road-capable vehicle, SPG Automobiles has gained considerable traction in the market.
As the company marks its first anniversary in Nepal, it plans to introduce two new vehicles: the Jaecoo J5, which we will explore in detail in this article, and the retro-styled V23, another off-road-focused model.
The Jaecoo J5 EV made its official debut at the 2025 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) and is gearing up for a fourth-quarter launch in Malaysia. Built on the same platform as its ICE sibling (which comes with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and offers both FWD and AWD options), the J5 EV is part of Jaecoo’s broader push into Southeast Asia.
But, interestingly, the electric version isn’t just a simple powertrain swap. The EV model looks noticeably different from its ICE counterpart, bringing fresh design cues that set it apart. Even more intriguing is the buzz that Nepal could be the first market to get the J5 EV.
And, if that’s true, it opens up two possibilities: either Nepal is taking a bold step as a regional leader in Jaecoo’s EV journey, or it’s quietly becoming the brand’s test bed for early feedback. So, should we feel excited about being at the forefront? Or should we tread carefully, knowing we might be the first ones ironing out the kinks?
What is the Price of Jaecoo J5 in Nepal?
Jaecoo J5 price in Nepal is expected to be between Rs. 55 Lakhs to Rs. 60 Lakhs. However, the exact pricing is not known as of now.

Jaecoo J5 Overview
Exterior
The Jaecoo J5 brings a bold, boxy, and minimal design that clearly reflects modern EV aesthetics. Originally marketed with the tagline “For New Urban Youths”, a common pitch among new energy Chinese vehicles, the J5 takes a different branding route in Nepal.
Here, it’s being introduced with the tagline “High-End All-Road”, a slogan Jaecoo Nepal hasn’t fully explained yet. But going by the words, it seems to position the J5 as a luxury vehicle capable of handling all kinds of roads, not just city streets.
Now, setting the branding aside, let’s go bumper to bumper on the EV version of the J5. At the front, the J5 EV sports a slim central grille that runs right under the bonnet line. This grille features 45-degree slanted lines that form a textured, almost 3D surface, giving it a technical and looker look.
The Jaecoo logo sits in the middle, flanked by sleek LED lighting elements that merge with the grille, creating a wide and unified signature. Below that, there’s another grille-like structure on the bumper. However, this area feels visually busy, with patterns and possible air intake elements that disrupt the overall coherence of the front design. The rest of the fascia sticks to a clean, boxy aesthetic, in line with the brand’s “minimalist approach”.
From the side, the J5 features an abundance of sharp character lines and a slightly pronounced rear haunch that adds muscle to the otherwise clean profile. The C-pillar design stands out, and roof rails add a functional touch to the SUV silhouette. The J5 rides on 18-inch Alloy wheels styled with a Petal-like design.

On closer inspection, these wheels appear to incorporate aero-optimized elements, likely contributing to improved efficiency. While the side profile appears aerodynamic overall, Jaecoo has opted for conventional door handles instead of flush units, which slightly contradicts the otherwise airflow-conscious design.
At the rear, the J5 features a sleek connected Taillight bar that includes the turn indicators. The Jaecoo logo takes center stage, lending a sense of symmetry. Interestingly, the design motif from the front grille seems to echo in the taillight bar, which gives a sense of visual continuity, whether intentional or just my brains connecting the dots, it works.
Interior
But, inside, the story changes quite dramatically, and for the better. The cabin feels upmarket, with Dual-Tone Faux Leather Upholstery and soft-touch materials spread across key touchpoints. A large 13.2-inch Portrait Infotainment Screen dominates the dashboard and controls most of the vehicle’s functions.
As I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again, this centralized control layout, while stylish and tech-forward, can feel a bit cumbersome, especially for basic tasks, as we’ve experienced previously with the Jaecoo J6.
The seats are heavily perforated for Ventilation is likely available, at least for the front occupants. The center console follows a “Waterfall” design, where the infotainment screen flows smoothly into the lower console. Physical toggles sit below the screen, followed by Cup Holders, a Wireless Phone Charger (most likely only one), an armrest, and a glovebox tucked underneath, all arranged neatly.
Jaecoo hasn’t held back on the creature comforts either. You get a Panoramic Sunroof that adds to the cabin’s openness and Double-Glazed Soundproof glass that helps block out road noise for a more serene experience.
And finally, there’s a quirky, yet thoughtful touch, “Pet-friendly” features. These include extended seat areas and an advanced air filtration system designed to trap pet hair and promote a hygienic, antibacterial environment. While it might sound gimmicky at first, pet owners will likely appreciate the extra attention.
Performance
Jaecoo J5 is powered by a 155 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that generates a max power of 211 PS and a max torque of 288 Nm.
It comes equipped with a 58.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, delivering a WLTP-claimed range of 400 km. Although the official charging time remains undisclosed, our calculations estimate that a 7.2 kW AC charger can fully charge the battery from 0% to 100% in around 9 hours.
Additionally, using a DC fast charger, the battery can go from 30% to 80% in just about 27 minutes.
The J5 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.7 seconds and without an electronic speed limiter, it can push all the way to a top speed of nearly 180 km/h.
Additional Details
McPherson Strut and Multi-Link handles the suspension duties.
The dimensions are 4380 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, and 1650 mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 2620 mm.
While the exact ground clearance hasn’t been revealed yet, we can make an educated guess. It’s likely to be more than 170 mm, probably somewhere around 180 to 190 mm, which is quite typical and necessary for a vehicle in this segment.
As for storage, the boot offers a 480 liters of space, and you can expand it up to 1180 liters by folding the rear seats. There’s even a small frunk up front, which is of a modest size, but handy enough to store your charging cables or a few daily essentials. Moreover, Jaecoo claims that there are a total 36 storage spaces throughout the car.

Jaecoo J5 Price in Nepal and Availability

Rivals
The Jaecoo J5 steps into a competitive segment, going head-to-head with a wide array of electric SUVs in its category. Its rivals include the BYD Atto 3, MG S5, the newly launched Proton e.Mas 7 and Hyundai Creta Electric, and many more.
Jaecoo is gearing up to make a stronger impact in Nepal under the unified “Omoda Jaecoo” branding. This strategy has already shown promise since, by 2024, the company had climbed to become the fourth-largest EV seller in the country. But the road ahead is far from easy. Established players like Hyundai, MG, and BYD are charging back into the EV scene with fresh, compelling models, clearly aiming to reclaim their dominance.
BYD has doubled down with the tried-and-tested Atto 3 and the newly launched Sealion 7, both backed by its extensive EV expertise and the trusted Blade Battery. MG introduced the S5 EV that boasts RWD backed performance with an efficient battery pack as well. Similarly, Proton entered the fray with its family-oriented yet executive-looking e.MAS 7 which also has battery pack (Short Blade Battery) that has potential to become a benchmark.
Furthermore, Hyundai brought in the Creta Electric, playing heavily on its ICE bestseller’s nostalgic pull and Tata unveiled the Curvv.ev, signaling its commitment to electric mobility with a bold design language and Tata’s EV push feels like a natural evolution from its ICE dominance in Nepal. Each of these brands has something memorable going for them. And the fact that they’ve made it into this conversation already proves they stand out in their own ways, whether it’s technology, legacy, or design.
Now, enter the Jaecoo J5. The vehicle hasn’t officially launched yet, and much of its spec sheet remains under wraps. So, making a final judgment now might be premature. But the big question is: What will set the J5 apart in such a competitive space? Yes, pricing will matter. A lot. But Jaecoo also positions itself as a “premium” brand, so aggressive pricing can’t come at the cost of perceived value. That makes things tricky. It’s walking a fine line between affordability and maintaining a premium image. Can Omoda Jaecoo carve out its niche among giants? That’s still uncertain.
What’s clear, though, is that Nepal’s EV market is evolving rapidly, with competition at an all-time high. For buyers, that means more choices than ever. For brands, it means no room for missteps. While Hyundai, Tata, and MG have largely won over Nepali buyers with consistency and strong brand recall, Omoda Jaecoo still feels like the new kid on the block.
The brand has shown potential, but building long-term trust will take time, and a clear identity. In that journey, the J5 could be a game-changer. It’s not just another model, in fact it’s Jaecoo’s shot at proving it belongs in the same league. Whether it lives up to that expectation will decide how firmly the brand can plant its flag in Nepal’s electric future.
But what do you think? Does Nepal needs more electric SUVs? Do let us know in the comments!
