iPhone 16 Plus with a New Camera Control Button Launching Soon in Nepal

Apple announced iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus on September 9, 2024, at “Glowtime” event in Cupertino, California, United States.

Like before, the Plus variant this year, the iPhone 16 Plus, is the same as the iPhone 16, but larger. In return, it has a bigger screen and a bigger battery.

Apple says the iPhone 16 series was built for Apple Intelligence, Apple’s version of the AI system. There is also a new Camera Control button and a new ultrawide camera with autofocus. In this article, we will discuss its new features and specifications in detail.

iPhone 16 Plus Overview

Design

The rear camera of the iPhone 16 Plus is now vertically aligned like in the iPhone X days. The iPhone 16 also comes with a variety of new vibrant colors including black, white, pink, teal, and ultramarine.

Other than that, the iPhone 16 has the same build as the iPhone 15 Plus, except for the display. It now has a second-generation Ceramic Shield, which Apple says is “two times tougher than any smartphone glass”. The enclosure is the same “aerospace-grade” aluminum and the phone still is IP68 splash, dust, and water resistant.

There are also new buttons on the iPhone 16. The alert slider is now ditched for the Action Button that debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro series.

Additionally, there is a new Camera Control button below the power button. The Camera Control has a tactile switch for the click experience, a force sensor that enables the light press gesture, and a capacitive sensor for touch interactions.

Camera Control

The iPhone 16 Plus has a new Camera Control button. Camera Control can quickly launch the camera, take a photo, and start video recording so users don’t miss the moment.

A new camera preview helps users frame the shot and adjust other control options — such as zoom, exposure, or depth of field — to compose a stunning photo or video by sliding their finger on the Camera Control. Additionally, developers will be able to bring Camera Control to third-party apps such as Snapchat.

Display

The 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display is unchanged from the iPhone 15 Plus. It has a claimed 1,000 nits max brightness, 1,600 nits peak brightness for HDR content, and 2,000 nits peak brightness under bright light.

One new addition is that the display brightness can now go as low as 1 nit. However, It still is limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, and the 120Hz ProMotion feature is only available to the Pro series.

Hardware

The iPhone 16 Plus comes with an all-new A18 chip, built on second-generation 3-nanometer technology. Apple says the A18 chip is built for Apple Intelligence.

Its 16-core Neural Engine runs machine learning models twice as fast as the A16 Bionic, while the 6-core CPU is 30% faster and more power-efficient.

The 5-core GPU delivers up to 40% faster graphics and supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing for smoother gaming, with up to 5x higher frame rates.

Additionally, the efficiency of A18 and the device’s rearchitected internal design deliver up to 30 percent higher sustained performance for gaming, Apple says.

In terms of storage, it comes in three variants: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage. The iPhone 16 Plus also introduces Wi-Fi 7 support.

Camera

The iPhone 16 Plus features a 48MP Fusion camera that supports a 2x digital zoom. The new 12MP ultrawide camera now also supports autofocus and enables macro photography.

And because of the new vertical camera arrangement, the iPhone 16 Plus now takes spatial photos and videos for Apple Vision Pro. Moreover, the video can now be captured in spatial audio for immersive listening with AirPods, Apple Vision Pro, or a surround sound system.

iPhone 16 series introduces Audio Mix — allowing users to adjust their sound after capture to focus on the person’s voice on camera, make it sound like the video was recorded inside a professional studio, or position vocal tracks in the front and environmental noises in surround sound.

The front has a 12MP selfie camera and can shoot up to 4K 60fps.

Battery and OS

Apple does not officially specify the battery capacity. However, Apple says the battery can last up to 27 hours of video playback, longer by an hour than iPhone 15 Plus.

The iPhone 15 now supports faster 25W MagSafe charging and 15W Qi2 wireless charging. It also still supports 7.5W Qi wireless charging.

Apple claims up to 50% charge in around 30 minutes with a 20W (or higher) adapter paired with USB-C charging cable, or a 30W adapter (or higher) paired with a MagSafe Charger.

The iPhone 16 will come with Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that combines the power of generative models with personal context to deliver intelligence.

However, although the smartphone runs iOS 18.0 out of the box, Apple Intelligence will only be available after the iOS 18.1 update.

Apple Intelligence

iOS 18 introduces systemwide Writing Tools that allow users to rewrite, proofread, and summarize text across apps like Mail, Notes, and third-party platforms. Audio can also be recorded, transcribed, and summarized in Notes and Phone apps.

Siri gains a more natural communication style, with richer language understanding, context retention, and a new glowing design around the screen edge. Apple Intelligence helps prioritize notifications and emails.

Users can search photos and videos with natural language and remove distractions in photos with the new Clean Up tool.

Additional Apple Intelligence features will roll out later this year and in the months following, including Image Playground, which allows users to create playful images in moments.

iPhone 16 Plus Price in Nepal and Availability

The iPhone 16 Plus price in Nepal is expected to be around Rs. 1,75,000 (128GB), Rs. 1,95,000 (256GB), and Rs. 2,33,000 (512GB). The phone will soon be available for purchase in Nepal.

The iPhone 16 Plus is the same phone as the iPhone 16, except it’s bigger. That means you get a bigger screen and more importantly larger and longer battery life.

When it comes to what’s new on the 16 Plus compared to the 15 Plus, the camera arrangement is new (or old if you look at the iPhone X and iPhone 12). The biggest update is the A18 chip, an Action Button that replaced the alert slider, and a new Camera Control button.

Furthermore, the phone supports Wi-Fi 7, its new ultrawide camera now supports autofocus, and the wireless charging is now faster. The iOS 18 will introduce Apple Intelligence, Apple’s way of offering AI features.
