Insta360 X4 Overview

Build and Design

The Insta360 X4’s design has remained largely the same as its predecessor, which looks like a feature phone with a large display that has lenses protruding from both sides. However, it is now slightly larger and heavier, featuring a larger 2.5-inch touchscreen now protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The body also has a ridged pattern on the back.

The placement of the ‘shutter’ and the ‘lens’ buttons has stayed in the same place below the touchscreen. Other elements like the tripod mount, indicator LED, power button, and the ‘Quick’ button have stayed in the same place as well. Finally, the water resistance rating of up to 10m has also remained the same.

The standard removable lens guards now come in the box with the Insta360 X4.

Camera

The camera capability of the Insta360 X4 has seen a decent upgrade when compared to the X3’s. The Insta360 X4 is now able to shoot videos in 8K resolution at 30 frames per second in 360° mode.

When shooting fast-paced sequences or action segments, the camera can now record in 5.7K at 60fps and in 4K at 100fps. The Single-Lens Mode on the Insta360 X4 has been upgraded to shoot 4K60fps videos.

Camera Features

The Insta360 X4 comes with Active HDR, which Insta360 claims boosts colors in the highlights and shadows that other action cameras miss.

The Insta360 X4 has a bunch of creative features like Starlapse, Timeshift, Timelapse, and Timed capture.

There’s Me Mode where the camera tracks your movements in real-time and reframes you in the center. Additionally, it includes 360° Horizon Lock, which levels the video even when the camera is fully rotated.

Powered by a new 5nm AI chip, the Insta360 X4 now has AI-powered shooting and editing features, along with gesture control, voice control, and improved subject detection.

Battery

Powering the device is a 2290mAh battery that Insta360 claims gives it a 67% longer runtime (135 minutes) than its predecessor when shooting in 5.7K resolution at 30fps.

The camera charges via a USB-C 3.0 port, which is an upgrade from USB 2.0, providing faster transfer speeds.

With a larger battery, the recording time has increased to 135 minutes. Lastly, it now includes AI-powered enhancements and gesture control.
