The world’s largest sporting event, i.e. the FIFA World Cup, is here! And I am sure you wouldn’t want to miss it! But the main question is — how to actually watch the World Cup, especially in Nepal?

Worry not, my fellow football enjoyer! In this article, we will discuss all the ways you can watch the FIFA World Cup in Nepal. So, without any further ado, dai dai, ikou, dale, allez, let’s go!
Watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Nepal Overview
S Pro Media secured the broadcasting rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Nepal and has partnered with Himalaya Sports TV and the DGO app to distribute the match coverage. You can tune into those platforms to watch the games.
However, the broadcast is locked behind a paywall, of course. Not really a surprise, considering it reportedly cost S Pro Media 45 to 50 Crore Nepali rupees for the royalty and distribution facilitation. That’s a huge investment!
How Much Does It Cost to Watch the FIFA World Cup in Nepal?
The price you have to pay varies depending on which platform you are tuning into.
On Himalaya Sports
If you have a traditional or non-Android TV, you will need an IPTV subscription or a set-top box to stream the tournament — think Net TV, DishHome, ViaTV, Clear TV, and so on. Chances are, your ISP already has a TV service of its own. WorldLink has Net TV, Vianet has ViaTV, and so on.
The Himalaya Sports channel is normally available on these IPTV services, but since they are broadcasting the World Cup, access to the channel is now locked behind an additional fee of Rs. 999. This is what your IPTV providers are marketing as the “FIFA World Cup” package. Thankfully, it is a one-time purchase, so pay once, and you are covered for all 104 matches.
Below is the channel number you can find Himalaya Sports on various television providers:

What if you don’t have an IPTV or set-top box subscription?
TV channels are no longer a necessity for most households, replaced by Netflix, YouTube, TikTok, and the like. If you don’t have a set-top box but want to watch the World Cup on TV, you will need to subscribe to IPTV first, which adds cost on top of the Rs. 999 World Cup package. Based on a few providers I checked, expect to pay Rs 3,000 or more for the initial setup.
Some operators don’t offer anything less than a one-year plan, so if that’s the case, then the setup will be even steeper than that. I have saved you some hassle by reviewing the plans from a few popular TV providers, and here are the subscription costs:
On DGO App
If watching on a television sounds like too much hassle, you can watch the matches on your smartphone, tablet, or laptop through the DGO App. It is a much-improved refresh of the older DishHome GO app. DGO is offering two subscription types:
- Mobile Pass: Stream on a single device at a time. The pass is linked to your DGO account, so you can switch between the smartphone app and a web browser on your computer. It costs Rs 549.
- OTT Pass: This Rs 999 pass lets you stream on two devices simultaneously — ideal if your parents are watching at home while you catch the game on your office computer.

Do I Need a Set-Top Box If I Have an Android TV or TV Stick?
If you have an Android TV or TV Stick, you don’t need a set-top box. You can download the NetTV app from the Play Store, purchase the basic pack for Rs 250, get the FIFA World Cup package for an additional Rs 999, and you are good to go. Currently, Net TV is the only one marketing this option to general Android TV users, even if they aren’t subscribed to WorldLink internet.

As for the DGO app on Android TV, it is unclear whether the Mobile Pass covers Android TV streaming or whether the OTT Pass is the only option. We have reached out to DGO for clarification and will update this section once we hear back.
How to Buy the FIFA World Cup Package in Nepal?
You can buy the FIFA World Cup Package or Season Pass in multiple ways:
Through the IPTV Website
Firstly, you can purchase the season pass directly from your IPTV website. Here is how:
- Go to your IPTV’s website
- Click on the World Cup banner or button
- Fill out your Customer Information
- Make the payment through your preferred channel
- Done!
Through the DGO Platform
Likewise, getting the pass for the DGO app or website is also pretty similar:
- Open the DGO app or website
- For smartphones, click on the banner of the pass you want to get (Mobile Pass or Season Pass)
- For the website, you can click on either banner, and you can later choose the specific plan
- Make the payment through your preferred channel
- Done!
Through Digital Wallets
You can also get the FIFA World Cup Pass directly from your digital wallet. eSewa only lets you get the pass for the DGO App, while Khalti lets you pay for the pass on a handful of other IPTVs as well. Regardless, here is how you get the subscription from your digital wallets:
- Open your digital wallet of choice
- Click on the World Cup-related banner or button
(If you do not see such banners, click on the search bar and type FIFA and click on the shown result) - Choose the pack you want to purchase
- Fill in the necessary details
- Make the payment
- An activation code or a coupon will be sent to your email and SMS
- You will then have to go to the platform of your choice (IPTV or DGO)
- Follow all the processes we discussed earlier till you reach the payment page
- Now, instead of making the payment, apply the coupon
- Your FIFA World Cup pack on your desired platform will now be activated
Note: You may not be able to purchase the FIFA World Cup pack directly from other smaller digital wallets.
Is the FIFA World Cup Pass Expensive?
Compared to the 2022 World Cup pass, the price has nearly doubled from Rs. 565 (Rs. 500 + 13% VAT) to Rs. 999 (inclusive of VAT). S Pro Media made a massive investment in the broadcasting rights, and with Nepal’s limited advertising market, they have to recoup it somehow. So the pricing makes sense, even if it stings a little. But the Mobile Pass on DGO is actually cheaper than what we paid before.
So, is the FIFA World Cup Pass expensive? Yes and no. Depends on the pack, really.
Even if you got yourself the OTT Pass or the Himalaya Sports access on IPTV, I think Rs 1,000 is a fair price to pay to watch the entirety of the world’s largest sporting event. After all, there are more games to watch this time around. Besides, it’s a once-in-four-years thing. I think we can all afford a thousand bucks every four years.
And I want you to remember the thrill of the last World Cup final — that 2-0, then 2-2, then 3-3, then that last-moment Dibu Martinez save, then the penalty shootout. Ooof! Would you not pay a thousand rupees for that thrill alone? I would.
But maybe that’s just me. Maybe you want to…
Watch the FIFA World Cup in Nepal for Free
You know, I know, we all know it. Might as well address it. There are pirated sites through which you can watch the FIFA World Cup for free. I don’t condone it, so I won’t point you to any specific source, even though I know of a few.
But I’ll tell you this: if you want to watch it for free, scour the internet. Go to TikTok, Reddit, and the comment sections of World Cup-related posts on pages like RONB. You will find a source or two.
Fair warning, though: nothing in the world is truly free. These sites are plagued with ads — and by a lot, I mean A LOT of ads. There is a workaround for that too. But more seriously, reports have surfaced of people being targeted through “Free World Cup Live Streaming” scams, with some losing multiple lakhs from their bank accounts.
So if you really want to go that route, proceed with caution. All the very best!
Watch the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Nepal: Conclusion
