The Wait is Over: Honor Magic 5 Pro Now Available for Pre-Order in Nepal

Honor unveiled the Honor Magic 5 Pro, its flagship smartphone for 2023, along with the standard Honor Magic 5 during the company’s event at Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona, Spain. Four months later, Honor is preparing to launch the Pro model in Nepal and has already revealed the price.

The Honor Magic 5 Pro price in Nepal is Rs. 1,64,990 (12/512GB). Starting from June 26, 2023, the phone will be exclusively available for pre-order on the online marketplace Daraz.

As an added incentive, pre-bookers will receive a free Marshall Emberton speaker. Once the pre-order period concludes, the phone will be widely available at retail stores across the country.

Honor Magic 5 Pro is the successor of last year’s Honor Magic 4 Pro, which did not arrive in Nepal. In this article, we will discuss the specifications and features of the Honor Magic 5 Pro.

Honor Magic 5 Pro Overview

Design

The Honor Magic 5 Pro features a striking “Star Wheel” triple camera setup at the back, arranged in a triangular formation on a circular island. This island also includes an LED flash (a flicker sensor and a multi-spectrum color sensor near it), a microphone, and a dTOF sensor. Honor refers to this design as the “eye of muse” design.

The phone has a glass back and an aluminum frame. The frosted glass back slightly curves up to blend with the camera system. The sides are also curved, both the front and back. Interestingly, the display has a pill-sized cutout for the camera.

The power and volume buttons are located on the right side of the phone. The top side has a speaker grille, a microphone, and an IR blaster. Similarly, the bottom has a dual SIM tray, primary microphone, USB-C port, and another speaker.

Moreover, the phone is IP68 rated for protection against dust and water.

Display

The 6.81-inch LTPO OLED display supports 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+. The display has a resolution of 1312 x 2848 pixels. The display has a peak brightness of 1800 nits when viewing HDR content.

Additionally, the display features 2160Hz PWM dimming technology, up from 1920Hz from its predecessor. This should help reduce eye fatigue when used in low brightness.

As mentioned earlier, the display has a pill-shaped cutout for front-facing cameras, and the sides are curved.

Hardware

Powering the Honor Magic 5 Pro is the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 uses TSMC’s 4nm technology and boasts four CPU clusters in a new CPU microarchitecture in a 1+2+2+3 configuration.

The clusters combine the flagship Arm Cortex-X3 core, two performance Cortex-A715 cores, two performance Cortex-A710 cores, and three power-efficient Cortex-A510 cores. Moreover, it Adreno 740 GPU.

The chipset is coupled with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 4.0 storage. The device does not support storage expansion via microSD card.

For biometric authentication, the Honor Magic 5 Pro has an optical fingerprint scanner under the display and also a 3D depth camera for face recognition.

Additionally, Honor Magic 5 Pro has a standalone Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antenna. Honor claims this is the industry’s first architecture. It resolves the mutual interference between the two connections, boosting Wi-Fi speed and reducing Wi-Fi latency.

Camera

The triple-camera setup comprises a 50MP primary camera with f/1.6 aperture and OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.0 aperture, and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with f/3.0 aperture and OIS.

The periscope lens offers 3.5x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom. The setup also includes an 8×8 dToF sensor for autofocus and depth mapping.

The smartphone can also shoot macro shots using the ultra-wide camera and the telephoto camera.

On the front, the pill-shaped cutout houses a 12MP selfie camera and another ToF sensor for depth mapping. This 3D depth camera supports 3D face recognition for safely unlocking the device.

Battery and OS

Compared to the Honor Magic 4 Pro, the battery capacity of the Magic 5 Pro has increased. It is now 5100mAh, up from 4800mAh.

For charging, the device supports 66W fast charging (wired) and 50W fast wireless charging. Furthermore, the phone supports both reverse wired and reverse wireless charging.

In terms of OS, the phone runs on Android 13-based Magic OS 7.1.
