Hero MotoCorp has fixed itself as a brand for commuters. It’s hard to imagine that it all began with the iconic Hero Honda Splender. Moreover, it was the motorcycle that defined Hero for generations to come.
Ironically, it has been a sort-of curse. People only choose a Hero motorcycle for its fuel efficiency rather than raw power. That didn’t work when the 150-160cc segment really took off. However, Hero has been trying to revamp their image, trying ever so hard to appeal the rider of all ages.Unfortunately, Hero didn’t stick its landing, as seen in the disastrous Hero Karizma R. Moreover, their Hero Xtreme 200R failed to make a boom, despite being affordable for a 200cc single-channel ABS motorcycle.
Interestingly, things took a right turn, especially with the Hero XPulse 200. It offered something completely different with good styling, which was absent in previous Hero launches. Furthermore, it seems Hero wants to continue on this path.
Just a year ago, Hero showcase Hero Xtreme 1R concept at EICMA 2019. Honestly, it was something… different. While it is often impossible for a concept to go into full production, Hero did that too.
Hero Xtreme 1R morphed into Hero Xtreme 160R.
That’s right! Hero Xtreme 160R is officially coming in India! Moreover, it is the first 160cc Hero motorcycle. However, there are no definitive dates for its launch or pricing. But the Hero is expected to launch it at INRs. 90,000 – 95,000. Likewise, Hero Xtreme 160R price in Nepal might land somewhere in between Rs. 3.00 Lakhs to Rs. 3.50 Lakhs.
Before that happens, let’s take a brief look at everything offered in Hero Xtreme 160R.
Hero Xtreme 160R Overview
Starting off with the engine, Hero Xtreme 160R is powered by a single-cylinder, BS-6 complaint FI engine. Moreover, it can generate a max power of 15bhp at 8000rpm and max torque of 14Nm at 6500rpm. Furthermore, it is mated to a 5-speed gearbox with a 12-liter fuel tank.
Talking about its features, it comes with a new Negative LCD instrument cluster, Full LED lighting, hazard light, Engine-Kill switch, Dual-disc braking with a single-channel ABS, and so much more!
You get a programmed FI engine with 14 different sensors to deliver the best performance. So, you get features like side-stand engine cut-off which is growingly popular in BS6 engines.
If you are wondering about the sensors in the FI engine, we have a cover on this with the help of Yamaha.
Moving on, it is made on a Rigid Diamond Frame for improved handling. Likewise, it gets a front telescopic Showa suspension with 7-step adjustable rear mono-shock.
Hero Xtreme 160R Styling & Design
With a bike quite unique like this one, how can we not talk about its styling?
Well, Hero Xtreme 160R can be described with two words: Aggressive and Streetfighter. It proudly hosts a muscular stance with the huge fuel tank, droid-like headlamps, compact exhaust, and integrated pillion grabrail.
Despite looking like a beast, it weighs just at 138.5kg. Basically, the light-weight body helps the bike to perform much better with improved fuel economy.
However, you don’t get an engine cowl, which is disappointing.

Hero Xtreme 160R: When Will It Launch in Nepal?
Trust me, I am very interested in this motorcycle. So, I really want this in Nepal. With the immense success of Hero XPulse in Nepal, I think NGM, the authorized distributors of Hero bikes in Nepal, will be more than happy to launch it in Nepal.
As of this writing, Hero Xtreme 160R is officially live on the Hero’s official Indian site. However, there’s no word on its official launch date. Moreover, it might just take a month or two, especially with the current world scenario.
Nonetheless, I do think that there’s a strong chance NGM might launch the Hero Xtreme 160R in Nepal by Dashain next year. Additionally, we might even get to see a showcase at NADA 2020.
