Gogoro, a Taiwan based company and arguably the pioneer of battery-swapping technology on a commercial scale, has made its entry into Nepal. Currently, it operates in countries like China, Indonesia, Singapore, India, Philippines.

In April 2024, Gogoro launched a pilot program in Nepal, operating on a Business-to-Business (B2B) model, partnering with delivery services like Foodmandu and Jum Jum. The program proved to be highly successful and demonstrated the feasibility of electric scooters in Nepal.

By addressing the current charging challenges faced by electric scooters, Gogoro aims to leverage its battery swapping technology, which will allow riders to swap a low battery for a fully charged one in just a few minutes.

The attention to detail in the headlight assembly, coupled with the neat positioning of turn signals, ensures that the front design feels modern and highly functional.

From the side, the Gogoro Pulse’s slim frame enhances its agile look, while the matte finish gives it a premium appearance.

The battery compartment, nestled below the seat, is neatly integrated into the body without adding bulk. The seamless transition between the scooter’s body panels and the clean lines emphasizes the vehicle’s lightweight construction.

The motor enjoys a Dual Cooling System i.e. Air Cooling as well as Liquid Cooling to ensure consistent performance even in the events of high heat.

Gogoro smart scooters are designed with innovative swappable battery technology, allowing riders to easily replace their low battery with a fully charged one in a matter of minutes.

It is claimed that each battery provides 130 kilometers of range. But, users have to subscribe to swap plans in which fees are charged based on the Ampere hour (how much battery power is used).

These plans starts at Rs. 299 (for 88 Ampere-hours) that will be good for an estimated 107 km of riding range.

Gogoro’s batteries can only be recharged at dedicated swapping stations, which means charging them at home is not an option and might feel limiting for some users.

Moreover, Pulse also has four different Power Modes: Smart, Normal, Super Boost, and Low Energy.

Also, Pulse can reach a top speed of 116 Km/h and has an exhilarating acceleration reaching 0 to 50 Km/h in just 3.05 seconds.

A thing worth mentioning is the unit of scale used here i.e. Ampere-hour.

Generally, scooter batteries are rated in Ampere-hour (Ah) as they have smaller batteries with lower energy consumption. Since e-scooters focus is more toward range and charging time, Ah scale is preferred for a simple and relatable unit for users to understand.

Meanwhile, car batteries are measured in kilowatt-hour (kWh) car buyers typically prioritize energy capacity and efficiency.

For example, a scooter battery rated at 88 Ah with 48V stores about 4.22 kWh of energy, while a car battery rated at 50 kWh with 400V has a capacity of 125 Ah.

Gogoro Pulse will compete against one of the most technologically sound electric scooter available in Nepal, Ather 450X.

The Gogoro Pulse Ultra surpasses the 450X in terms of power, featuring a robust 9kW motor compared to the 450X’s 6.4kW motor.

That said, the 450X offers an impressive range of features, including 4G connectivity, Park Assist, Auto Hold, and Fall Safe, making it an appealing option. While design preferences are subjective, many might find the 450X’s design more attractive than the Pulse’s.
