eSewa, one of Nepal’s most popular payment gateways, has completed its eight years of operation. Through eSewa, users can pay telephone, Internet, electricity and water bills, recharge mobile phones, and purchase airplane and bus tickets.
Statistics:
- More than 60 lakhs users have utilized eSewa services since the release of the beta version in 2009.
- eSewa Mobile App users have reached more than 4 lakhs.
- The company is currently expanding their services and has more than 30 thousand agents.
- At present, 44 banks are associated with eSewa.

According to the Vice Chairman of the company, Asgar Ali, e-Sewa has been helping Nepal transfer to cashless transaction system. He also mentioned that he feels proud that his company was the pioneer in introducing mobile financial services to the remote areas of Nepal.
