DishHome 4K Streamer Overview

Design

The DishHome 4K Streamer has a rectangular dongle that plugs into the TV’s HDMI port. The other end has a micro-USB port to power the device. It also comes with its own RCU remote control.

The remote that comes with the streamer has basic function buttons such as power, volume, up/down, settings, home, and more. In addition, the remote also features dedicated buttons for YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, DishHome Go, and Google Voice Assistant.

Features

The streamer comes pre-installed with DishHome’s own OTT service ‘DishHome GO‘. With this, the users can watch DishHome channels over the internet.

Moreover, the streamer also gives access to other streaming services, including YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, HBO, ALTBalaji, Eros Now, SonyLIV, and many more. However, as of now, there is no support for Netflix on it. Netflix may come in the future if there are enough users of the device.

It can stream content at a resolution of up to 4K/60 fps and for audio, it supports Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus.

The streaming device is said to be Google certified running on Android TV 11. It also supports Google Voice Assistant. It utilizes the remote’s built-in microphone to search the content or app using voice. In addition, using the mobile app “Google TV”, android phones can also be used as a remote.

Furthermore, the device also has a Chromecast built-in, which lets users cast movies, shows, apps, games, and more to the TV from the mobile phone.

Hardware

According to Dish Media, the DishHome 4K streamer is equipped with an Amlogic S905Y4 SoC. It’s an ARM Cortex-A35-based quad-core chipset built for media players with a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU.

However, the company is seen marketing the device as having an SoC with Arm Cortex-A53 cores, which is a bit confusing. We do not know if the cores are incorrect or if they meant the Cortex-A53-based S905Y2 SoC.

Anyway, for the memory, it has 2GB LPDRR4 RAM and 8GB eMMC storage. And, for connectivity, the streaming device supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2.

The Dishhome 4K Streamer is a streaming device for TVs that enables non-smart TVs to run on the Android TV OS. It allows the TV to connect to the internet and use various TV apps such as streaming services like YouTube and Amazon Prime Video.

It also comes pre-installed with DishHome GO, an OTT service from DishHome, which can be used to watch DishHome channels over the internet.

But, seeing that the media player does not support Netflix is a disappointment. It also uses an outdated micro-USB port for power, instead of the latest USB Type-C.
