HIGHLIGHTS
- The NTA has revoked CG Communications’ Telecom license.
- The decision to cancel the services was finalized in January 2024.
- The decision was carried out under Rule 12 of the Telecommunications Regulations 2054 and as per Section 25(5) of the Broadcasting Act 2053.
On June 6, 2024, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) issued a public notice formally announcing the revocation of CG Communications’ Telecom (CG Telecom) license, a decision implemented six months prior. This action follows the cancellation of STM Telecom Sanchar Pvt. Ltd’s operations.
On November 21, 2003, the government granted license number RTS-EDR-01 to CG Communications, then known as STM Telecom Sanchar Pvt. Ltd., authorizing them to provide telecommunication services in rural areas of the country.
The license was revoked on November 16, 2023, due to the failure to build the required infrastructure and submit the renewal application and fee within the specified period, in accordance with Rule 12 of the Telecommunications Regulations 2054 and Section 25(5) of the Broadcasting Act 2053.
In an effort to sustain its service, CG Communications submitted the renewal application on December 8, 2023, nearly a month after the deadline. Consequently, the NTA confirmed the automatic revocation of the license, effective January 2, 2024.
