ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED 2024 Laptop Now Available with AMD Processors in Nepal

Asus refreshed its Zenbook series of laptops by announcing the new Asus Zenbook 14 OLED. The Intel variant was announced in December 2023, in Taiwan, and the AMD variant was announced at the CES event in January 2024. Both the laptops are now available for purchase in Nepal.

Asus, the Taiwanese consumer electronics manufacturer, is known to make all sorts of tech gadgets including networking equipment, mobile phones, computer parts, and computer accessories. The company is, however, most famously known for making laptops.

Their newest addition to the Zenbook lineup, the Zenbook 14 OLED, comes in two variants, one with a Ryzen processor (UM3406 model) and another with an Intel processor (UX3405 model). Both laptops have OLED screens and a 75Wh battery packaged in an ultra-portable design.

The Intel model was launched in Nepal on February 1, 2024, while the AMD model arrived only recently on March 31, 2024. More detailed specifications for both variants of the laptop are given below.

Asus Zenbook 14 OLED 2024 Overview

Design

Design-wise, the Zenbook OLED comprises premium materials. The entire body, including the lid of the laptop, is made up of aluminum with a matte finish which makes the device quite the fingerprint magnet.

On the top, there are lines etched on the aluminum body that makes up the Asus logo accompanied by a smaller ‘ASUS Zenbook’ written on the corner.

Being a thin and light laptop, one would assume that the device has a limited selection of ports, but Asus has managed to cram in a full-sized USB-A port and an HDMI port along with two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm combo jack.

The Zenbook 14 comes with Asus’ ErgoSense backlit keyboard that also has an ambient light sensor built-in. In line with their strong emphasis on AI this year, Asus has put in a dedicated Microsoft Copilot key on the keyboard (UM3406HA model only).

The glass trackpad of the device uses Microsoft’s precision touchpad drivers and can detect multi-finger input and gestures. The trackpad can also toggle between a normal trackpad and a number pad with the press of a button.

Display

The highlight of the laptop is the display, which alone makes the Zenbook 14 worth the purchase. The AMD variant of the Zenbook comes with a 14-inch, 2880 x 1800px resolution OLED display. It has a refresh rate of 120Hz and can achieve peak brightness of 600nits. Whereas the Intel variant of the Zenbook comes with a 14-inch, lower-resolution 1920 x 1200px display that has a refresh rate of 60Hz.

Being an OLED screen, the contrast and the picture quality provided by the display will appeal to users who want a high-caliber content consumption experience as well as to graphic designers and digital artists.

The webcam that comes with the Zenbook 14 OLED is a 1080p camera that supports Windows Hello biometric authentication and a privacy shutter for protection.

Hardware

There are two variants of Zenbook 14 OLED 2024 based on the CPU. One comes with the 14th Gen Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, while the other has an AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS.

The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor. It is a 16-core, 22-thread processor with 6 performance cores (1.4GHz-4.8GHz), 8 efficient cores (900MHz-3.8GHz), and 2 low-power efficient cores (700MHz-2.5GHz).

Starting with this series of processors, Intel changed the naming convention of its mobile processors by replacing the “i” after Core with “Ultra.” The Core Ultra mobile processors, code-named Meteor Lake, succeed Intel’s 13th Gen ‘Raptor Lake’ mobile processors and integrate dedicated AI acceleration capabilities.

The processor comes with Intel’s newest NPU, branded Intel AI Boost, which is built to handle longer-running AI workloads at low power.

Intel Core Ultra offers a built-in Intel Arc GPU that features up to eight Xe-cores, AI-based Xe Super Sampling (XeSS), and DX12 Ultimate support. The GPU includes support for modern graphics features including hardware-accelerated ray tracing, mesh shading, AV1 encode and decode, HDMI 2.1, and DisplayPort 2.1 20G.

The laptop with Intel processor ships with 16GB LPDDR5 on-board RAM and a 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD. The CPU thermal design power (TDP) is up to 28 watts.

The AMD variant of the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processor. This is an octa-core CPU that has a base clock of 3.3GHz and can reach a maximum clock speed of 5.1GHz.

Complementing the processor is the Radeon 780M integrated GPU that handles all the graphical processing for the laptop. This iGPU is a moderately competent chip and will run light games and graphical tasks much more easily than its iGPU competitors. The SoC is manufactured using a 4nm FinFET fabrication process.

For memory, the AMD laptop comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM soldered to the motherboard and 512GB of upgradeable M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 4 SSD. Other features of the laptop include support for Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and speakers tuned by harman / kardon.

Battery

To power the laptop, Asus has included a decently sized 75Wh Li-Ion battery in both variants. Asus has stated the laptop can last around 15 hours in the Intel model and around 17 hours in the AMD model.

The battery also supports Easy Charge, meaning any suitable USB-C charger can be used to charge the laptop. And reportedly, supports 20% more charge cycles than the previous model’s battery.

The price of the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED 2024 in Nepal is Rs. 1,52,490 (Ryzen 7 8840HS 16/512GB) and Rs. 1,77,777 (Intel Core Ultra 7 155H 16GB/1TB). The laptop is available for purchase at Neoteric and Nagmani International authorized retailers all across Nepal.

The Asus Zenbook 14 OLED 2024 is a solid entry into the thin and light laptop market. It will meet most consumer’s demands, featuring an OLED screen, an all-metal build, Windows Hello authentication, and plenty of processing.
