Oppo has been a central figure in the smartphone scene of Nepal. It is now one of the key players alongside Samsung, Xiaomi, and Huawei. It mostly targets the mid-range market and its designs appeal to young consumers. Oppo knows its appeal among young buyers, and it capitalizes on that fact by launching phones with youth moniker time and again. This time, it is the Oppo F7 Youth.
Oppo launched the Oppo F7 in April to much fanfare. It was one of the best selling phones from Oppo in Nepal. Oppo wants to continue the momentum with the new Oppo F7 Youth. It comes at Rs. 31,950, 5000 less than the original Oppo F7.
OPPO F7 Youth has a 6 inch 1080*2160 IPS LCD FHD+ display without a notch. Most Android users would thank god for that. Also, it is equipped with an Helio P60 processor from MediaTek which is a mid-range processor. You’ll be getting great performance with normal day-to-day tasks like facing and watching videos on YouTube. But gaming performance won’t be as astounding. And as OPPO is very generous with RAM and storage, the F7 youth will be equipped with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage which means great multitasking experience and lots of selfies.

But even if OPPO has provided the youths with ample storage to store selfies, it will be taking away the 25MP selfie shooter found on the OPPO F7 and replacing it with 8MP one on the F7 Youth. That is a bummer. Why is OPPO playing with the hearts of Nepali Youths by taking away the one feature that they desperately wanted? But don’t worry because though OPPO has shaved some corners in the hardware department of the camera, it is going all in on the software.
Oppo’s press release reads “Oppo F7 youth uses the same AI 2.0 Beauty Technology that is included in F7 Youth, acting as a personal beauty artist to customize beauty based on your unique facial features so that your photos will capture the real you. AI 2.0 Beauty Technology captures 296 facial points and divides the face into zones to perform finer beauty enhancements. So, not all is lost for the selfie fans.”
The primary camera also has been pared down to 13MP but it is a small reduction. The toning down of cameras are understandable because the F7 Youth has a lower price.

OPPO F7 Youth Price in Nepal: Rs. 31,590
Comparing the F7 Youth to the original F7, they are almost identical. The only differences are found in the cameras. The performance and the amount of RAM and internal Storage are similar; the design too is similar. But, and it is a big but, the F7 youth doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor which is sure to detract many youths on the market. They say that the F7 Youth makes up for it by using a face unlock system but a face unlock cannot match the simplicity and the speed of a fingerprint sensor. Also, the phone will have a little problem recognizing your face in the dark.
In the prelaunch article, we expected the Oppo F7 Youth to be priced around Rs. 27,000. But that is not the case here. It is nearly Rs. 4500 off the mark. And, with F7 costing around Rs. 36,590, for the 64GB model, we don’t think the F7 Youth is that good value. It lacks a fingerprint sensor and the cameras had been toned down. However, it is up to you to decide if losing these features is worth Rs. 5000.
