Japan is going to provide landing rights to all Nepali carriers at all airports except Haneda Airport in Tokyo, reports The Kathmandu Post.
The Details:
- Nepal Airlines, after receiving two long-range Airbus A330 jets due to be delivered by May and June respectively this year, wants to extend its services to Japan.
- The landing rights came in a discussion between the two countries to amend their air service agreement (ASA) that is over 20 years old. A draft MOU has been sent from Japan and Nepal is soon going to send its comments on it.
- Haneda Airport, the busiest airport by passenger traffic in Japan, is the fifth busiest airport in the world. Though getting rights to that airport is more desirable to Nepal, the draft MoU has specifically clarified that Japan will not be able to grant landing rights at Haneda.
- Moreover while Nepal has asked for 14 weekly flights, Japan has proposed granting seven weekly flights in the MOU.
