Samsung Galaxy S9 is one of the most anticipated phones that is going to hit the market in 2018. With its predecessors, the Samsung S8 being absurdly popular around the globe, it is a given that the S9 will gain the same or even higher amount of popularity. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is going to be launched on February 25, 2018. The Pre-order starts on March 1 and the phone will start shipping on March 16.
It is not uncommon for people to be curious about the specs of the upcoming phones. So, following are some of the rumors that have been hitting the web.
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy S8 already has an exceptional camera. But, the rumors say that camera on the Galaxy S9 is going to be significantly better than its older brother. The Forbes calls it “DSLR-like camera”. Rumors suggest that the camera will have the same megapixel count as its older brother, that is 12 Megapixels. But, the confusing part is whether it is going to have a single camera or the dual camera setup because the camera is said to have two apertures, f/1.5 and f/2.4.
This makes the deduction confusing because we cannot infer whether it is a single camera that has a variable aperture or a dual camera setup with f/1.5 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. My prediction is the smaller S9 will have a single sensor that has a variable aperture that is configured automatically by the software and the bigger S9+ will have a dual camera setup with sensors of two different apertures. Either way, the Galaxy S9 is set to have an amazing camera. The smaller aperture lets you take some of the best low light photos on any smartphones. So, the claim made by Forbes is not entirely a “bluff”.
Also, with the new processor, the Snapdragon 845 or the Exynos 9810, the camera can now shoot 4K videos at 60 fps. The Galaxy S9 will probably be the second smartphone to implement this after the iPhone 8. The other thing that might come to the Galaxy S9 is “Super Slow Motion Video”. Basically what this does is, the new processor lets you shoot in ONE THOUSAND FRAMES PER SECOND and when you play it back in the regular 24 fps, you get over 40 times slow footage. This was previously done by Sony in its Xperia XZ Premium smartphone. Once it is implemented, it is set to be as popular as the “bezel-less” displays.
Design
The design might not see a major overhaul. Though some minor tweaks can be expected. The first that is certain to be changed in the new iteration of the Galaxy lineup is the location of the fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy S8 was criticized for its placement of the fingerprint sensor beside the camera. As a result of that placement, every time you tried to unlock the device you got smudges on the camera. This problem is said to be addressed by Samsung by moving the fingerprint sensor below the camera, which is a rather practical spot. All the other things will presumably be the same while the bezels will probably shrink.
The design of the Samsung Galaxy S9 was confirmed by DBrand after the release of the skin for S9.

Samsung Galaxy S8 was itself a great smartphone. If it weren’t for its minor flaws like the fingerprint scanner and the non-reprogrammable Bixby button, it would have been the perfect smartphone. So, will the Galaxy S9 be able to fix those minor flaws and make it’s way to the top of the market? Time will tell us.
