Honor X5d Series Launched in Nepal: Same Phone, New Name?

Honor’s X-series phones, especially the higher-end ones, have built a reputation for offering excellent endurance and durability. However, their lower-tier phones, like the X5 and X6 series, get slammed for their entry-level specs and not-so-good durability. Just look at the X5c series and X6c. For 2026, Honor Nepal has brought in the X5d, X5d Plus, and the X6d smartphones. Here, we will only be talking about the Honor X5d series.

Now it’s not a surprise that the new generation of smartphones has become more expensive. Let’s see by how much the X5d series has gotten pricier.

For readers unfamiliar with the Honor X5 series, it sits at the bottom of the barrel within the Honor X lineup. And unlike the previous Honor X5b and X5c series, which launched around a year apart, the X5d series arrived early.

There was just a 6-month gap between the X5c series launch and now. Which does bring up the question: Is that enough time for a meaningful upgrade? Or is the X5d series just a rebranded X5c?

Honor X5d Series Overview

Both the X5d and the X5d Plus share the same dimensions, down to the millimeter. Even the back panel with the three camera cutouts is identical. Now, this isn’t uncommon within the same series lineup, but what’s not common is having the same dimensions as your predecessor.

Yes, the X5d series shares the exact same dimensions as the X5c series, and it even comes in the same color variants as last year: Tidal Blue, Meteor Silver, and Midnight Black. Which does raise the question: did they just reuse the same body?

It certainly looks that way, cause all four phones, the X5d, X5d Plus, X5c, and X5c Plus, look exactly the same. There’s literally nothing differentiating them.

Ok, so the design is the same. So what? Maybe what’s inside is different.

Well, nope. Both the X5d and X5d Plus feature the same 6.74-inch TFT LCD panel as the X5c series phones. It looks like they used the same panel here too. So that means the same HD+ resolution, the same 90Hz refresh rate, and the same 260PPI pixel density.

So basically, a pretty entry-level viewing experience.

And the same goes for performance too. Last year, the X5c saw a major performance jump over the X5b. So it wasn’t surprising to see both the X5d and X5d Plus running the same MediaTek Helio G81 as their predecessor.

Looking at rivals like the Redmi 15 and the Samsung Galaxy A07, which fall at a similar price point, the G81 here does feel a bit behind. For memory, both the X5d and Plus variant get 4GB RAM. However, the X5d only ships with 64GB storage while the X5d Plus gets 128GB. For users wanting more storage, Honor has also included a dedicated microSD card slot supporting up to 1TB.

The camera department is no different either. It’s the same setup as the X5c series. The X5d features a 13MP main camera while the X5d Plus gets a 50MP one. Both phones have a 5MP front camera housed in a teardrop notch.

To power everything, both the X5d and X5d Plus pack a 5,260mAh battery. A couple of months back, anything above 5,000mAh would have been fine. But now, even entry-level smartphones are packing 6,000mAh or more, so the 5,260mAh here feels a touch behind the competition, even though it’s the same number we saw on the X5c last time.

Not to forget, both phones also retain the same 15W fast charging as before.

And lastly, it seems Honor didn’t even bother giving the X5d series a newer Android version. Both the X5d and X5d Plus boot on Android 15 with MagicOS 9, just like the X5c. And to put that into perspective, Android 15 was already a year old when the X5c launched. So the same Android version here technically feels like you’re using a 2-year-old phone.

The Honor X5d series feels less like an upgrade to the X5c series and more like a rebranded version of it. The X5d is basically the X5c, and the X5d Plus is the X5c Plus. There’s absolutely no difference, not in the design, not in the specs, and not even in the Android version.

Now, I could look past the similar specs. Even the identical design is somewhat understandable, since we’ve seen this pattern repeat across many smartphones.

But what’s not acceptable is Honor not bothering to offer the latest Android version. Honestly, I would have even accepted Android 16. But Android 15 on a 2026 phone? That’s just unacceptable.
