Redmi Watch 6 Lite Also Launched In Nepal: Much Like Watch 6 Active?

Xiaomi is aggressively expanding its smartwatch lineup in Nepal this year. After launching the Redmi Watch 6 a few months back, they have added three new offerings to the lineup: the flagship Xiaomi Watch S5, the Redmi Watch 6 Active, and the Redmi Watch 6 Lite.

In this article, we will focus on the lattermost option, which slots right in the middle of the three in terms of pricing.

If we look at the major specs of the Watch 6 Lite, it looks pretty similar to the cheaper Watch 6 Active. But what’s the difference? Let’s take a deeper look in this article:

Redmi Watch 6 Lite Overview

As I stated earlier, the Redmi Watch 6 Lite shares many of its specs with its affordable sibling, including its dimensions. While the two smartwatches have the same measurements, they look distinct enough — courtesy of the bump on the side. This bump houses a red-coloured home button, which I like for the contrast it brings to the rather mundane Black and Steel Grey watch colours.

Likewise, I found this side bump similar to the “Key Island” of Samsung’s A-series phones. I hope Samsung follows this design language if they ever decide to make a midrange, A-series-equivalent smartwatch.

Apart from that, the frame is made of PC polymer, aka plastic, just like the Watch 6 Active. The strap is also made of the same TPU material, and its ridged texture gives the watch a sporty look. Meanwhile, the Redmi Watch 6 Lite’s water resistance is much better at 5 ATM.

On the front, we have a large 1.96-inch AMOLED screen with 2.88mm narrow bezels. This display is larger than that of the Watch 6 Active and also has a higher peak brightness of up to 1,500 nits.

The battery on the Watch 6 Lite is the same as in its Active sibling, with 470mAh capacity, and battery life of 18 days under “light” and 12 days under “normal” usage. It also comes with the same Bluetooth version for connectivity and phone call support.

Now, let’s move to the reasons the Redmi Watch 6 Lite costs an extra over the Watch 6 Active, starting with the sensor hub. The Watch 6 Lite comes with a 9-axis motion tracking sensor, which is basically a combination of an accelerometer, a gyroscope, and an electronic compass.

With this, you can track your progress in over 150 different sports and activities, including swimming — thanks to the 5 ATM water resistance I mentioned earlier. It also has multi-system satellite positioning support for added precision in your fitness tracking.

One other thing this watch has that I think is often taken for granted is the ambient light sensor. In my books, it’s a must-have on a smartwatch because having to adjust the brightness every time you go out or come back inside is a bother you don’t realise exists until you face it.

Redmi Watch 6 Lite Specifications

It may be difficult to choose between the Redmi Watch 6 Lite and Active just from the specs sheet. But it is definitely worth paying the extra for the Watch 6 Lite, especially if you are into fitness. That said, it’s not like you can shut your eyes and get this smartwatch.

The realme Watch 5, which also recently launched in Nepal, is definitely worth your attention. The Redmi Watch 6 Lite has better water resistance (5 ATM vs IP68) and more sports modes (150+ vs 108) for sure. But the realme Watch 5 matches the Redmi pretty evenly in terms of hardware while costing just Rs 10,999.

realme Watch 5 has an ambient light sensor or not would probably be the tie-breaker for me. Lol.
