While everyone is just so busy releasing a new SUV every other week, Skoda seems to be the only one opposing the river flow with the all-new sedan, Skoda Rapid Onyx in Nepal.

Yes, you heard it right! MAW Enterprises, the authorized distributors of the Skoda cars in Nepal, has launched a sedan in 2019! Honestly, it seems very weird to see the launch Skoda Rapid Onyx in Nepal, especially when the Nepali market has an insatiable hunger for SUVs and Hatchbacks… seems counter-intuitive.

Skoda Rapid Onyx is a Limited Edition of the Rapid version. So, most of the things are like the old Skoda Rapid, expect the few tweaks here and there. Furthermore, it comes with a 1598cc petrol engine which can generate a max power of 104BHP at 5200rpm and a max torque of 153Nm at 3750rpm. Moreover, it is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox.

Skoda Rapid Onyx comes in a new Blue Color along with 16-inch black alloy wheels, black-colored mirrors, floating-roof appearance. Plus, the Skoda Signature Grille is always nice to see. On the inside, it gets a foldaway cup holder, cooled glove box compartment, amberglow Footwell Illumination, and so much more.

In terms of features, there isn’t a lot to write home about. However, it does come with a few decent features that should be highlighted.

Should You Buy Skoda Rapid Onyx in Nepal?

While I was writing this article, I had a pretty open mind about this car. Since it is an international brand which falls under the premium category, I expected a lot. Unfortunately, it falls short in so many ways.

First, the overall design is cool and attractive, but it is starting to look dated. Plus, a sedan automatically eliminates the practicality of an SUV, which seems to be one of the problems.

Secondly, despite the high asking price, Skoda Rapid Onyx does not have a Push-Start Button (so no keyless entry) nor does it have a Reverse Camera. Just… let that sink in.

However, there are some aspects that I loved! The priority in Skoda’s safety features seconds to none. And, the overall build quality and reliability are high as ever.

So, should you buy one?

While Skoda Rapid Onyx is a good car, there are plenty of others in the market that offer so much more. With that kind of price, you could easily choose one of premium hatchbacks or even affordable SUVs!
