Smart #1 Overview
Design
Mercedes designed and engineered the Smart #1, earning it the prestigious iF Design Award and the Red Dot Award.
Both the #1 and #3 share a similar design language, though they differ in some key aspects. The #1 is a sub-compact SUV, whereas the #3 is a coupe, leading to differences in their side and rear profiles despite their similarities at the front.
The front of the #1 embraces minimalism, featuring a clean and neat design.
LED headlamps, connected by a slim LED DRL strip, stretch across the car’s width, enhancing its sleek appearance. Below, the grille integrates air intakes, adding to the car’s functionality.
The wheel arches house stylish 19-inch Alloy Wheels. With the exception of the side mirrors, there are no protruding components, making the #1 aerodynamically efficient.
At the rear, a full-width light bar that incorporates the taillights mirrors the front’s design, while a large rear window adds to the vehicle’s modern look.
Inside, the #1 offers a luxurious experience. Premium materials are used throughout the interior, including the dashboard and steering wheel, with meticulous stitching adding a refined touch.
The dashboard features a 12.8-inch Central Display Screen, which controls most of the car’s functions, as there are no physical buttons.
Additionally, the #1 boasts a 10-inch Head-Up Display, available only in the Premium variant. The three-spoke steering wheel, however, retains physical controls, and a 9.2-inch Instrument Cluster sits just behind it.
The cabin is further enhanced by a Panoramic Sunroof that floods the space with natural light, while a 13-Speaker Beat Sound System delivers an immersive audio experience. It’s worth noting that the lower Pro and Pro+ variants come with a 6-Speaker System.
Performance
Smart #1 will be offered across three variants that are all powered by a 200 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM). It generates a max power of 272 PS and a max torque of 343 Nm.
However, the Pro variant is supported by a 49 kWh LFP battery that is good for 310 Km range (WLTP). The charging time from 0 to 100% for this variant is around 7 hours with a 7.2 kW AC Charger.
On the other hand, the Pro+ and Premium variants are supported by a 66 kWh LFP battery that provides 420 Km and 440 Km of range (WLTP) respectively. And the charging time for these variants is around 10 hours with a 7.2 kW AC Charger.
All variants are able to charge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes with a 130 kW DC Charger.
Furthermore, all the variants of #3 are capable of reaching a top speed of 180 Km/h and 0-100 Km/h in 6.7 seconds.
In addition to these variants, there is also a “Brabus” model, which is focused on performance. It features all-wheel drive and a total motor output of 315 kW. But sadly, it won’t be coming to Nepal anytime soon.
This version can reach a top speed of 180 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
Additional Features
Front McPherson and Rear Multi-link handle the suspension duties.
The dimensions are 4270 mm in length, 1822 mm in width, and 1636 mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 2750 mm.
The ground clearance is 182 mm. And, the kerb weight is 1788 Kg for the Pro Variant while Pro+ also weighs at 1788 Kg but the Premium weighs at 1800 Kg.

One of the competitors for Smart #1 will be the BYD Atto 3.
The #1 and Atto 3 both fall within the SUV segment, with the Atto 3 setting a trend for electric SUVs in Nepal.
However, the #1 might take that further with its sub-compact design, potentially streamlining the market.
When it comes to performance, the #1 stands out with a 200 kW motor, which is double the power offered by the Atto 3.
The battery capacity for the #1 varies by variant, ranging from 44 to 66 kWh, while the Atto 3 provides 49.92 and 60.48 kWh batteries in its variants. Despite these differences, both the #1 and Atto 3 claim a similar driving range.
Ultimately, the deciding factor may come down to price, with the #1 likely to be more expensive due to its larger motor.
Overall, while the #3 offers an impressive package, it faces stiff competition from the already established BYD brand in Nepal.
