HIGHLIGHTS
- Skoda Kylaq produces 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque.
- Kylaq particularly highlights its torque output, which is useful for hill climbs and urban conditions.
- It aims to balance city usability with capability across challenging terrains.
In simple words, torque gets your car moving, while power keeps you moving and faster. Skoda’s latest addition to their lineup, Kylaq, is a compact SUV that finds a balance between these two elemental engine parameters, especially in the torque output and its delivery.

Torque plays a critical role in how a vehicle performs, especially in challenging driving conditions, and it is now being emphasized as a key strength of the Skoda Kylaq. With an output of 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque, the SUV becomes a capable option for both urban and off-road environments in Nepal.
Torque is often overshadowed by horsepower figures, but it is the torque that creates the rotational force enabling a vehicle to move from a standstill, climb steep gradients, and carry loads efficiently. It is measured in Newton-meters (Nm); higher torque typically translates to better pulling power, particularly at low speeds and on inclined grades.
According to the company, the Kylaq’s turbocharged engine is tuned to deliver strong low-end torque, which is especially useful in Nepal’s varied terrain. It has tested across congested city roads to steep uphill routes in regions like Tinjure, Dhorpatan, and Manang, and is claimed to offer consistent performance and control.
In practical terms, higher torque at lower RPM can improve drivability by reducing engine strain and enhancing responsiveness. This can also contribute to better fuel efficiency, particularly in stop-and-go traffic or mountainous conditions.
Skoda positions the Kylaq as a dual-purpose SUV, i.e., suitable for daily commuting as well as long-distance travel across challenging landscapes. The focus on torque, combined with its overall power output, reflects a broader attempt to align performance characteristics with Nepal’s real-world driving demands.
