TechLekh Verdict
The Samsung Q60D is a solid choice for those seeking an entry-level QLED TV with decent picture quality, a sleek design, and smart features. Its VA panel delivers good native contrast but the lack of local dimming and limited HDR brightness hinder its performance.
Samsung Q60D is best suited for casual viewers who prioritize smart features and decent everyday performance over top-tier picture and sound quality.
Other options might be worth considering for those seeking a more immersive experience, especially for HDR content or wider viewing angles.

Samsung QA75Q60D QLED 4K TV Review
Good Design
- 75-inch
- 1676.7 x 997.3 x 320 mm (with Stand)
- 32KG
The Q60D has a simple design that resembles the design of Samsung’s entry-level 4K TV, the CU8000. The build quality is nice although it uses plastic material.
The plastic construction makes it look a bit cheap but the build quality is not compromised.
The stand supports the TV quite well in the lower position but the TV wobbles front to back in the higher position. On the front, the TV has thin bezels on three sides, top, right, and left. The bottom bezel is thicker in comparison but it is not an eye sore.
Moving our attention to the rear panel, it is made of plastic but the brushed finish gives it a premium touch. The input ports are recessed into the TV to give it a slim profile. However, they will be hard to reach if you wall-mount the TV with a fixed bracket. Likewise, it has a VESA 400X300 support.
On the back, the input ports are neatly arranged within a cutout. Notably, the TV features three HDMI 2.0 ports, with HDMI 2 supporting eARC. Positioned just above HDMI 2 is a LAN port, accompanied by two USB inputs higher up. For audio enthusiasts, a Digital Optical Audio Out port is conveniently located along with HDMI 1.

Good QLED Panel
- VA panel
- HDR10+
- 60Hz
- Dual LED
The Samsung Q60D uses a Vertical Alignment (VA) panel, the same technology found across Samsung’s QLED and Neo QLED lineup.
VA panels are known for their superior contrast ratios, typically producing deeper blacks than IPS alternatives. In practice, this means the Q60D delivers impressive native contrast that shines when watching movies in a dark room.
During dark scenes in films like Batman or John Wick movies, you’ll notice rich, deep blacks that add depth to the image. However, unlike higher-end Samsung models, the Q60D doesn’t include local dimming technology. This means that the blacks might appear slightly grayer than ideal when bright objects appear against dark backgrounds – think stars in a night sky or streetlights in night scenes.
There is a silver lining to this omission though: without local dimming, you won’t experience the distracting ‘blooming’ effect (where bright objects create a halo in dark scenes) that can occur on some TVs with poorly implemented local dimming systems. This makes for a more consistent if less dynamic, viewing experience.
Color, HDR & Brightness
The VA panel of the Samsung Q60D offers excellent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space and comes Pantone-validated, ensuring accurate color reproduction.
Colors appear precise, with good saturation levels that enhance the viewing experience. The dual backlight system further improves color accuracy and brightness compared to conventional edge-lit backlighting. While the overall color volume is satisfactory, the panel struggles with darker tones due to a less-than-ideal contrast ratio, limiting its ability to display deep, rich colors in low-light scenes.
When it comes to brightness, the panel delivers excellent SDR performance. It is bright enough to effectively combat glare, making it a great choice for viewing in well-lit rooms.
Q60D has okayish HDR experience.
The Q60D’s HDR performance is modest. While it can display HDR content, peak brightness levels aren’t high enough to make highlights (like sunlight reflections or explosions) truly stand out. This, combined with its limited contrast range, means you won’t get the dramatic HDR impact found in higher-end TVs, particularly during vibrant daylight scenes or when watching HDR movies in well-lit rooms.
Grey & Black Uniformity
The Samsung Q60D boasts very good gray uniformity. While the sides of the screen appear slightly darker than the center, there is a noticeable dirty screen effect in the middle.
In very dark or near-black scenes, the uniformity is excellent, although the corners and bottom edge are marginally brighter than the rest of the screen.
The black uniformity is fantastic overall. While there are minor cloudy patches near the corners, they are subtle and hardly noticeable, even in near-black scenes.
Viewing Angle
The Samsung Q60D’s viewing angle is quite limited, making it unsuitable for wide seating arrangements. Significant color shifting and brightness loss occur when viewing the screen off-center, with colors appearing increasingly washed out the further you move to the sides.
Good Upscaling
- Quantum Processor Lite 4K
- Motion Xcelerator
The Q60D handles upscaling of lower-resolution content impressively. When displaying 720p or 480p sources like older TV shows or YouTube videos, images appear sharp without artificial edge enhancement artifacts. However, while the overall picture clarity is good, the TV struggles to reveal the finest details in complex scenes.
One notable weakness is the minimal content smoothing capability. During dark scenes, especially in compressed streaming content, visible artifacts/patches are noticeable.
Motion, Gaming, & Response Time
The motion handling on the Samsung Q60D is underwhelming. Fast-moving content, such as sports like football or cricket, often appears blurry, which can detract from the viewing experience.
The Q60D’s motion handling features deliver mixed results. While it offers motion interpolation (sometimes called the ‘soap opera effect’) to smooth out movement, the feature’s performance is underwhelming.
During slower scenes, you’ll notice artificial-looking artifacts and halos around moving objects. Fast-paced action scenes fare even worse, with more obvious visual artifacts and occasional complete failure of the smoothing effect.
The TV also includes a Black Frame Insertion feature that reduces motion blur by briefly turning off the backlight between frames. This helps make fast-moving content like sports or action scenes appear clearer, though it comes with a noticeable decrease in overall brightness.
The Q60D is not the TV you would want for gaming. Since it is limited to HDMI 2, you can only play games at 60Hz. Furthermore, the response time is also not good enough for a good gaming experience.
Sound Quality
- 20W Speaker
- Q-Symphony
The 20W speaker on the Q60D is average at best. It’s loud enough for a medium-sized room, and the sound is generally well-balanced. However, the bass is virtually nonexistent. While dialogue remains clear, the audio quality deteriorates at higher volumes, becoming less pleasant.
The distortion performance is decent. However, distortion becomes noticeable at around 80% volume, so you’ll need to keep the volume lower to maintain clean audio.
Q60D also supports Samsung’s Q-Symphony feature which enables the TV’s built-in speakers to work in harmony with a compatible Samsung soundbar, delivering a synchronized sound experience.
Smart Features & Remote
- Smart Tizen OS
- Solar Cell Remote
- Multi-Link Audio
The remote for the Samsung Q60D features a unique solar charging option, though it still includes a Type-C port for convenience. It’s sleek, compact, and equipped with dedicated buttons for popular services like Netflix, Prime Video, and web browsers. However, it would have been a nice addition to have a couple of programmable buttons for more customization.
The voice control button provides access to Bixby, allowing you to change settings, switch inputs, and answer basic questions with ease.
As expected, the Samsung Q60D runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS. The interface is user-friendly, with preview windows for the most-used apps—Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube—readily available on the home screen.
The Q60D offers a solid selection of streaming apps through Samsung’s Tizen platform, though it lacks Disney+ and Apple TV. A standout feature is ‘Workspace,’ which lets you mirror your Android, Windows PC, and Mac screen directly to the TV, making it useful beyond entertainment.
