Bagmati Province has implemented the much-awaited “70-Point System” for Driving License Trials from February 14, 2023.
These guidelines are already active in Province 1, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim Provinces. Now, the Bagmati province has joined the list.
Previously, an examinee had to score 100 points to pass the trial.
Any mistakes (small or big) in the trial would be considered a failure. Due to this, the trial pass rate for cars is 15%-20%, and for motorcycles is 30%-40%.
However, things will be different now.
It is a sigh of relief for those who previously failed their trials by making minor mistakes like not turning on indicators at the right time or not wearing helmets properly.
If the examinee does make those minor mistakes, the allocated marks will be deducted rather than considering them to fail outright.
A candidate must score a minimum of 70 out of 100 points to pass. Due to this, the trial pass rate is expected to double.
After the implementation, the driving tests will be conducted following new standards across six offices in the Bagmati Province.
Nevertheless, there is a bit of confusion regarding the new system.
The following tables will highlight the scenarios when there will be a mark deduction and when it will be considered an outright failure.
70 Points Driving License Trial System in Nepal
For Two-Wheelers
The following table is for Category A and Category K.
The trial exam is divided into seven parts, totaling 100 points. Candidates for scooters and motorcycles must score at least 70 points to pass the trial exam.
Interestingly enough, the new system has made “Figure-8” a bit easier.

For Four-Wheelers
The following table is for Category B.
The trial exam is divided into seven parts, totaling 100 points. Candidates for a car must score at least 70 points to pass the trial exam.
Despite the new system going into effect, it still maintains a strong guideline for crucial tests like the “Ramp” and “Garage Parking”.
