Open data is the idea that some data should be allowed to use and republish by anyone. There should not be any copyright, patents or any restriction associated to use the data.
Open Data Day is a day to celebrate this flexibility to use open data. It is about motivating data enthusiasts around the globe. On this day, citizens of several countries liberate data, create open map and write software applications to analyze, visualize and publish the results of Open Data.
This year, Open Data Day 2016 is being celebrated in Kathmandu. It is the 4th consecutive year of Open Data Day celebration in Nepal. Open Nepal and YoungInnovations are organizing this event. The event will take place on March 05, 2016, 8am – 5:30pm at Kathmandu College of Management, Gwarko, Kathmandu.
Every year, the event has a theme, this year the theme is “Using Data to Solve Real Problems in Nepal”.
What to look forward on this day?
Open Data Hackathon
It is a hackathon where techies, journalists and citizen collectively develop applications, visualizations and tools that can harness the power of Open Data to solve issues in Nepal
To participate in the hackathon, register here.
Policy Dialogue
Notable personalities from government and non-government bodies will share their ideas on how they can incorporate Open Data in their policies and provide solutions for our daily challenges.
Thematic Talk Programs
Throughout the day, there will be different talk programs in thematic areas like public health, mapping, procurement, earthquake among other topics.
Initiative Showcasing
Different organizations will showcase their projects and initiatives that has used Open Data.
