Nepal Telecommunications Authority Warns 3 Domestic ISPs

3 domestic internet providers have been warned by Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) after they failed to deliver the required financial reports. These ISPs have been warned that they will have their licenses scrapped if they don’t deliver the reports.

There are 50 ISPs in Nepal. Among them, the 3 ISPs that are warned are Mega Broadcast Pvt Ltd of Dillibazar, Eastern Network Pvt Ltd of Naxal and Simple Media Network Pvt Ltd of Chakupat. In a formal notice, the NTA has given these ISPs 15 days to submit their annual financial reports and operation updates.

Min Prasad Aryal, spokesperson for NTA said, “These three ISPs have not submitted their annual financial reports since last two years and have also not paid the required taxes for the said period. This could mean that either these ISPs are defrauding NTA or are no more in operation.” He added, “NTA will scrap their operational

He added, “NTA will scrap their operational licenses as per the Telecommunications Act, 1997, if these ISPs do not approach NTA with the required documents within next 15 days.”

As per the Telecommunication Act 1997, ISPs are required to submit their annual financial report and operational status reports to NTA every year. They also have to pay four per cent of their income as royalty to the government and contribute two percent of their income to Rural Telecommunications Development Fund.
