Laptop arrivals aren’t as celebrated as phone arrivals in Nepal. Well, that’s understandable because the laptop market is nowhere near as big as the phone market. That may also be the reason as to why the laptop market in Nepal is so underwhelming. However, laptop makers are slowly bringing in new products into Nepal. Two laptops to arrive in that process are Lenovo IP130 15″ and Lenovo IP130 14″.
New products coming to Nepal is always a good thing. But it is better if those products bring something new and exciting to the market. I am sad to say that these two laptops are new but nothing exciting. They are the same old slab of black plastic that we see in the laptop shops in Nepal.Inside, both these laptops pack 8th Gen Core i5 processor which is perfect for everyday tasks like web browsing and word processing. But the RAM inside them is just 4GB. 4GB will give you a headache with multitasking. You may be able to live with it but I would suggest you buy a laptop with at least 8GB RAM in 2019.

Even worse part is the traditional mechanical hard drive. We are in the era where we talk about AR headsets but we are relying on an ancient (in tech world) technology for our storage? SSDs are getting cheaper and they are much faster and reliable than HDD. So, people, always ask the seller if you can get a laptop with an SSD. It makes such a huge difference in performance and speed of your laptop that you will have to use it to believe it.Another similarity between these laptops is the 2GB NVIDIA MX110 graphics. Discrete graphics is always better than Intel Integrated but this is not that powerful card. It will give you a small boost but don’t expect to game on this laptop. This is not made for gaming.

Now, let’s talk about the differences in these two laptops. Lenovo Ideapad 130 15″ costs Rs. 61000 and the Ideapad 130 14″ costs Rs. 58100. Also, weirdly, the 14″ version comes with a Full HD display instead of the normal HD screen found on the 15.6″ model. I don’t understand the reason for this weird discrepancy but this does make me suggest you to buy the 14″ laptop instead of 15.6″ one.
These laptops boast 6 hours of battery life which means you’ll get about 4 hrs in real life. At 2.1 kg, these aren’t heavy or light. They fall into the average category. And that about sums up these laptops. These are average laptops with an average design and average performance. If you want one, you can buy one but you’ll dearly miss an SSD and extra 4GB of RAM in these machines.
