Honor X9a Overview

Design

The Honor X9a bears a strong resemblance to the design of the Honor X40, which was released in China in September. The device features three cameras and a flash at the back arranged in a ring, which is a similar design to the flagship Magic series from Honor. This design is referred to as the Matrix Star Ring.

Despite having a plastic build, the design of the Honor X9a feels premium with its curved sides, and thin and light design. The phone measures 7.9mm at the thinnest point and weighs just 175g.

The power and volume buttons are located on the right side of the device, whereas the left side is empty. The top has an IR blaster and a mic. Likewise, the SIM card tray, mic, USB-C port, and speaker are placed at the bottom side of the device.

Unfortunately, it does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack or a microSD card slot. The phone comes in three colors: Titanium Silver, Emerald Green, and Midnight Black.

Display

At the front, the phone boasts a 6.67-inch OLED display with a curved design and Full HD+ resolution. The thin bezels surrounding the 10-bit display result in a screen-to-body of 93%.

The display also has a high refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of up to 300Hz. Additionally, the display features 1920Hz PWM dimming technology, which helps to reduce screen flickering in low brightness and alleviates eye fatigue.

It has a maximum brightness of 800nits. Honor says it has used “0.65mm Deeply Reinforced Glass” to protect the display that is capable of withstanding regular drops and impacts.

Hardware

Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G chipset powers the Honor X9a. It is a mid-range processor built on a 6nm process technology featuring two clusters of 8 Kryo 660 cores.

Two performance cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz are found in Kryo 660 Gold, which is based on Arm Cortex-A77 cores, while six efficiency cores with a maximum clock speed of 1.7GHz are found in Kryo 660 Silver, which is based on Arm Cortex-A55 cores.

Furthermore, the phone has an under-display fingerprint sensor for phone unlock and biometric authentication.

Camera

Honor X9a features a triple camera setup, comprising a 64MP main, 5MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The front has a 16MP selfie shooter.

Both the front and back can shoot video up to 1080p at 30fps.

Battery and OS

Despite the phone being slim, Honor has included a 5100mAh battery. Honor claims it can provide up to two days of battery life on a single charge.

The phone supports 40W Honor SuperCharge fast charging technology. The company says 30 minutes of charge allows 12.5 hours of continuous video playback.

In terms of software, it comes with an Android 12-based Magic UI 6.1 operating system.

The Honor X9a is a mid-range smartphone with a very attractive design with its thin and light body and curved 120Hz 6.67-inch OLED display. It has a triple camera setup with a 64MP main camera and a 5100mAh battery with 40W fast charging support.

The phone is equipped with a Snapdragon 695 chipset. It is a fairly powerful processor, but for a phone in this price range, Honor should have given a more powerful processor.
