Fusemachines Announces its Annual Online AI Learning Initiative, AI Fellowship, in Nepal for 2022

Fusemachines Inc., an AI talent and education platform and service provider headquartered in New York, announced the launch of AI Fellowship 2022 on January 20, 2022.

The online live certification programme, first launched in 2017, is a year-long programme to train and upskill engineering students, graduates, and postgraduates to prepare them for an AI career.

This programme is a Fusemachines initiative that was designed and expanded in Nepal over the last two years with support from the UKaid Skills for Employment (SEEP) programme, a programme helping to improve the skills of Nepali people funded by the British Embassy in Kathmandu. It aims to expand the talent pool of AI engineers in Nepal.

The training will be offered to a total of 100 Nepali university students and graduates with backgrounds in mathematics, engineering, and computer science. The selected candidates will be granted a full scholarship to take the courses.

“Globally aligning and improving the ICT skilling system, by ensuring stronger alignment with global and national expertise and industries is critical to realizing Nepal’s potential on ICT. Over the last two years, UKaid SEEP has supported Fusemachines in their growth journey, helping expand essential infrastructure, adapt and build context-responsive curricula, and forge stronger collaborations with academic institutions and other system actors.”

The Fusemachines AI Fellowship 2022 programme includes Fusemachines’ proprietary programs: the Microdegree in Artificial Intelligence and the Microdegree Specialization, both consisting of 2 courses that last 3 months each.

The first 2 courses in the primary programme are Machine Learning and Deep Learning, followed by Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing. The programme will help students develop a solid understanding of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning algorithms as well as underlying mathematics and code.

“Each year, we continue to take bigger strides on our path to Democratizing AI by enhancing access to credible, high quality AI training for people all over the world. Today, Fusemachines proudly employs several AI Fellowship alumni and it is our hope that we are able to bring on more high quality talent through a continuation of this important initiative.

We are glad that we continue to find support in committed partners like UKaid SEEP, whose concerted efforts to equip Nepal’s citizens of different backgrounds with varied skill sets has moved the needle around the country’s employment rates.“

—Sameer Maskey, CEO and Founder, Fusemachines

The programme will employ a blended learning method featuring weekly, live online classes conducted by highly regarded academics and industry experts, programming assignments, group projects, and examinations. Additionally, most of the content will be available online for students to peruse at their own pace.
