DJI RS 3 Overview

Design

With the gimbal, battery grip, and quick-release plates attached, the DJI RS 3 weighs 1.3kg and can support loads up to 3kg. It can therefore support all the mainstream DSLR and mirrorless cameras.

The company has redesigned the axes-locking system. Now when turning on the gimbal by pressing and holding the power button, the three axes unlocks while the gimbal unfolds automatically. This allows filmmakers to start filming sooner.

DJI RS 3 will also automatically fold and lock when you turn it off. And when the power button is pressed once, it enters sleep mode, which makes powering on the device, stowing it away, and relocating much faster.

The quick-release plates save the filmmaker from the need to re-balance the gimbal after swapping out a new battery or memory card. There is also a tuning knob on the tilt axis that allows you to accurately balance the camera with millimeter-grade precision.

Additionally, it now has a larger 1.8-inch OLED full-colour touchscreen that can help makes it easier to change some gimbal settings directly without connecting to its Ronin mobile app.

Features

DJI says the third generation (3rd-Gen) RS Stabilization Algorithm in the RS 3 enabled a 20% improvement in performance over DJI RSC 2. It implies that the equipment is more effective at stabilising footage when shooting from low angles, moving vehicles, or while running.

It also has a SuperSmooth mode, similar to RSC 2, that provides greater camera stability for lenses with focal lengths of up to 100mm.

The DJI RS 3 also now supports Bluetooth Shutter Button. It lets you connect to the camera wirelessly to start recording without the need for a camera control cable.

Battery

The gimbal has a new 3000mAh battery grip with a quick-release design, making it easier to swap batteries. It has a claimed battery life of 12 hours.

Additionally, the battery can be charged separately from the gimbal. It also supports 18W Power Delivery (USB PD) fast charging. The 18W fast charger should fully charge the gimbal in 2.5 hours.
