Oppo has made a name for itself in the smartphone world as an innovative company. Oppo has been known to push boundaries when it comes to smartphone engineering. They were one of the first company to bring the pop-up selfie cam mechanism to the market. They also tried swiveling camera at some point.
But they outdid themselves this time with Oppo Reno. Oppo Reno is a phone that has a near edge to edge screen at the front except for a tiny chin at the bottom. This time there is a pop-up camera that pops up like a door – hinged at one side. Not only that, the camera setup at the back is exceptional too.
The triple rear camera setup consists of a 48MP lens, an 8MP wide-angle lens, and a 13MP zoom sensor. Though the specs themselves look enticing, the numbers are not the most exciting part of this camera setup.
The most exciting part or the ability of this camera is its ability to zoom 10X into a subject. The 13MP sensor features a periscope-like lens feature that lets you zoom this far. The only other phone where we have seen this feature is on Huawei P30 Pro. And in right lighting conditions, this level of zoom feels magical.
The other cool feature on this phone is 5G support. This means Oppo Reno is one of the few phones out now that support 5G technology. Right now, as 5G hasn’t yet been adopted properly by network carriers, this is not that big of a deal. However, having 5G support does help your phone stay relevant for the future.

This phone hasn’t yet been launched internationally, so we don’t know much about it yet. We know that it will be powered by Snapdragon 855 from Qualcomm and will probably come with 8GB/10GB of RAM. There is a rumor that a less powerful version called Oppo Reno Standard edition will also be launched. This phone will come with Snapdragon 710 pre-installed and there will be only a dual camera setup at the back. The periscope zoom will be missing.
Oppo Reno will be launched on April 24 in an event scheduled in Zurich. This was revealed when many online tech reviewing companies said that they were getting invites from Oppo for an April 24 event. So don’t forget to tune into the event to see the phone in full glory.
