Vivo just posted on their Facebook page that a new Y series phone will be coming to Nepal. The last Y series phone that Vivo launched was the Vivo Y85. After that, the only phone Vivo launched were the V11 and V11Pro. Judging by the past Y series phones, the Y81i will probably be a budget phone.
Not many details about the phone have been leaked yet. The only things we know are that the phone will have a face unlock feature and that it will have a notch. There is a Y81i international variant but we don’t know if the same phone will be coming to Nepal.
The international variant has a 6.22 inch HD+ LCD screen and is powered by a MediaTek Helio A22 12nm chip. This chip performs similarly to the Snapdragon 450 chipset. For a budget phone that’s not that bad. The chip is aided by a 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. These are a bit on the low side. But still, we don’t know if the international version is the one that is coming to Nepal. Also, the international version has a 13MP rear camera along with 5MP selfie camera on the front.
Looking at the international variant, the Vivo Y81i looks to be a budget phone that might come well under 20K. From the photos, it also looks like Vivo has ditched the fingerprint sensor and focused solely on face unlock feature.
For under 20K, Vivo Y81i is an attractive offering that will add to the already massive selection of budget phones available in Nepal. But can it compete against the likes of Xiaomi and Samsung that have a solid grip on this market segment? It remains to be seen.
