In the fiscal year 2017-18, the number of heavy equipment registered in Bagmati zone alone stood at 2,119. The data collected from the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) proves the rise in the demand for heavy equipment as the number only stood at 1,991 in the fiscal year 2016-17. Heavy equipment includes crane, dozers, rollers, excavators, loaders, and graders.
Even the suppliers have noticed the surge in the numbers of heavy equipment sold. Dipendra Malla, executive director at Tractors Nepal, informed that the company’s sale of CAT equipment had increased by 50% this fiscal year as compared to the last year. He added that the sales were to be attributed to the increasing road expansion and construction activities across the country.
There have been various construction projects going on in the country which contributes to these increasing numbers. Nepal imports the majority of the heavy equipment and parts from China and India and some from other countries like Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Germany, and the US.
