On the occasion of World Cleanup Day (WCD), Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) launched its five new jet machines that will aid in cleaning up the city. The metropolis cleaned areas in Ratnapark, Raninpokhari, Bagbazar, Putalisadak, and Bhrikutimandap on the same day.
According to KMC’s spokesperson Gyanendra Karki, each of those machines has the capacity to hold 5,000 liters of water and 1,000 liters of sewage in two separate tanks. He added that the machines would remove the blocked drainage. Using the spray gun, the machines will also be to clean the leaves of saplings and trees.
At the inauguration event, KMC Mayor Shakya urged the people to join in their efforts to keep the city clean as the machines alone would not be enough. He said that the people should change their mentality and feel responsible for managing their solid waste produced from their households.
On the other hand, Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi suggested that the KMC should change its method of cleaning. He said that simply removing the dust from the roads and dumping them into drains should stop as it was blocking the entire drainage system.
